Is there a way to send text over wifi to a cell number

Hi ...
I am in the usa and have an evo with sprint.
I am going to Europe in the future and was wondering if there is a way to send a text message over wifi to people in us to their cell phone phone number and vice versa.
Any ideas.

Whatsapp is a great messenger that is a lot like texting but uses your phone's internet (be it wifi or 3g or whatever) to send the message. both parties have to have it installed though. This is a good way to send unlimited text's if you don't have an unlimited txt msg plan.
