Is there a way to start without WiFi?

Is it possible to bypass the startup on a new Samsung Galaxy t380?
We don't have WiFi but this device will not continue past the setup without a WiFi connection.

Exactly what kind of error message are you seeing when you restart your Tab A? A WiFi connection isn't an absolute requirement for any mobile device to reboot, it's only needed for online connectivity.

I'm not familiar with your new device so I don't know if there is a work around the wifi setup. I'm sure it's wanting a wifi connection for the anticipated extensive down loads of updates. That and there is usually wifi available. If you can't find a way to work around the setup, try going to a starbucks or some other public place that provides wifi. Good luck and welcome to Android Forums.

My mistake, if this is just a 'new' Tab as in 'recently obtained' than you shouldn't need any kind of online connection when starting it up but a 'new' as in 'first time you actually turned it on' than yeah, as others have stated at some point you need at least some kind of WiFi connection to do the first-time authentication process.
But just curious, if you don't have any WiFi access at home is there a particular situation where you'll be using your Tab A? Most mobile devices are relatively boring without readily available online connections.

First and foremost, thank you all for your quick response. Here's the background on my Samsung Galaxy Tab-A t380:
It was purchased new from Ebay. This is my first Android tablet experience. When first turned on it was already in Setup mode. On the second page it asked for WiFi connection. I tried to disable it on that same page to continue. But it will not continue past the WiFi page even with WiFi turned off. So I'm stuck. The Samsung tech support confirmed that for first time use I must connect with WiFi but thereafter I can continue to use it without WiFi.
I'm allergic to all wireless transmissions so we don't have WiFi in our home. Everything is wired up same with the internet.
I was planning to use the Samsung tablet as an E-reader and for simple gaming. But I didn't anticipate Samsung's mandatory WiFi connection because on my older Kindle tablet I was able to bypass WiFi when it was new.
So, it appears I have no other choice but to return this to the vendor.
Thanks again, Peter

Would it be possible to use your phone as a Wi-Fi hotspot for a minute to get past that step?

I thought about visiting the nearest library to get this done but I'm not comfortable playing with wireless more than I must. Same with my cell phone which is used only for emergency. It might take you only a minute but for a wireless newbie like myself it probably will be more like an hour figuring out by trial and error how it's done, which will cook me in the process o_O

Maybe go to your local phone store and buy a case or screen protector for it and I'm sure they'd be happy to set it up for you ;)

That's an idea to consider, thank you. I did order tempered glass screen protector which should arrive this coming week. But as far as I know the screen shield does not help for WiFi radiation. Also ordered the pluggable internet dongle in anticipation I will need wired internet connection to register and download a few things. Unfortunately, the dongle has only a class-B usb connector while the Samsung's USB connector is class-C. So I just ordered an adapter to bridge the mismatch. Wondering out loud, if I connected the Samsung tablet via this plugable internet connection and started it up again would it let me progress past the WiFi page since it will be connected to the internet? Or will it still insist on WiFi connection? Guess there's only one way to find out.
