Hello!
I have an idea but i can't find the suitable software+hardware to implement it! Could you help me spot out the appropriate software from the tons that are out there in case i missed it. Or maybe the is nothing similar out here so this hopefully could be a start for a new app/software segment
The idea is simple and i think many people around the world would find it useful. The background is that my family is split up and living in three different countries. Nothing strange, there are many split families around the world, studying working, etc. The thing is i would like to keep better contact with them. Sure you have the phone or webcams and i use them quite a lot but what i miss is the possibility have a peak to their places whenever i want. They could do the same. Something like a virtual window between two distant places!
Imagine you coming home from work and check on this little monitor on the wall. You see your mom and dad sitting by the table and drinking a cup of coffe. You weave at them and the weave back when they notice you. Thousand of miles lie between you. You can then continue doing your stuff or you could press a button on the screen and have a little chit chat with them.
On the side of the same monitor you can see another image to the house of your brother. He is living in a third country with his family. He just came home from work and you see him giving hugs to his two kids. Not a good time to bother him, you decide to check them later.
Ok, i hope you get what i mean. So the question remains. How to implement the hole idea. First we start with the limitations.
-Hardware+Software should be cheap so everybody can buy it
-It should use as little electricity and bandwidth as possible
-Easy to use, stable. My parents for example are no computer nerds.
I was thinking a cheap android pad should work. They are not so expensive, not power hungry. I can not though find any appropriate software. I was thinking of using a surveillance webcam server+client on every pad. Some of them has motion detection to minimize the bandwidth usage when nothing happens in one place. It would be smart to save on bandwidth and limit transmission between two places when ANY ONE of them has no movement(nobody is watching anyway). But that is way to advanced for the software i have found.
What do you think? Is there a working solution? Have you heard anyone working on a similar problem? Maybe there is another term for this concept that i am anaware of?
Thanks a bunch for reading this!
