Is there an app that alerts for car chases?

I've searched in vain for an app that sends alerts when there's a car chase being televised in the LA area. I've not only scoured Google Play but I've also checked local TV stations' web sites to see if they have such a creature, but I've come up blank. Before I moved back home to CA I *KNOW* I heard about something that did this--but that was circa 2006, so before Android, before smartphones were everywhere, etc., so it must have been a text message type thing sent to cell phones.

Does anyone know of such an app? (And, yes, I get quite a kick out of watching car chases, marveling at the morons who think THEY'RE going to be the one who actually loses the cops. :D)
 
How about getting a police scanner? Lol. I'm not in the US but you can check with your local police if they have apps for that.
 
Thanks for the ideas. I already have--but almost never use--some scanner apps, including the one saptech suggested, and I also have SigAlert, but none of those does what I want. :( Damn, I want an alert when there's a car chase! Too bad I have no clue how to create an Android app, or I'd tackle this myself. :)
 
Why don't you begin by describing (in considerable detail) how you would do this manually online, if you had a lot of spare time on your hands. Then perhaps we can advise you as to how this can be automated, either via a custom app or some other tools which already exist.

Unfortunately, there is no GOOD, efficient, appealing, manual way of doing it...other than flipping through the channels, or listening to police scanners 24/7, or constantly checking TV stations' and newspapers' web sites for 'breaking news' about a car chase.

Just like SigAlert.com and other traffic-related sites/apps get their info from...SOMEWHERE...so, too, would this info have to come from a source. In my scenario, this would presumably be a local TV station that's airing the chase, and it would be pushed to the user as an alert.

When I was living out of state, in Texas of all places!, I was able to get the local LA channels on DirecTV. So I got to watch all the exciting chases from here in the car chase capital of the world, even though I was 1500 miles away! :D But I don't think this solution will work for you. :(

TBH I thought the UK already had enough car chases without importing them from States. :smokingsomb:

Thing in the UK, one can't really scan and listen to police radio, not since it went digital(O2 Airwave).

i think the police have gave up chasing them here now lol. The chopper just follows til they crash or run outa petrol :D

I heard something along those lines. Think like they decided that high speed pursuits was too dangerous. So they just let them get on with it and follow with the police chopper. and maybe try and lay a stinger in front of them, using information from the chopper.

I don't think radio scanners are allowed in China. I've never seen them on sale here. I know in certain countries you have to be very careful about where you use a radio scanner. Like in or near an airport, could find yourself in serious trouble....

I remember the old days('70s and '80s) in the UK, when you could listen to the police on your ordinary FM radio.

I remember when the first mobile phones were analogue too and my dad had a scanner for work that we could use to listen to phone calls :)

There was something in the States when there was analogue/analog mobile phones that could be listened into. So instead of fixing the mobile phones, they fixed the radio scanners. :rolleyes:

"A - "Cell Blocked" means that the older analog USA Cellular phone Frequency reception is "blocked" from being entered into the Radio Scanner. As of April, 1994, an FCC rule required ALL Scanners Sold in the USA to be Cellular frequency Deleted (Blocked) by the Mfgr,"

I was a radiio ham, and heard about this happening at the time with radios in the US.

Analogue is correct for British English, and analog for the other one. :D Same with flavour/flavor, colour/color, neighbour/neighbor, doughnut/donut, realise/realize, etc.

Blame Noah Webster for that, with his 1828 "American Dictionary of the English Language". Because students do ask me, why is British spelling different to American spelling.

Lol i must say im all for the shortening of words with pointless letters in them. I remember in a forum an american tried to correct my spelling of "colour" though :D

What kinda winds me up but is also kinda cute is the american pronounciation of things like aluminium, moscow, muslim etc lol and how they get phrases wrong like "i could care less" :banghead::p
 
I gotta ask.
Why do you need an app to alert you to police chases?
Are you a lawyer?
Are just an avid lover of watching people get put in harms way by idiots?
I myself can't see the appeal in such an app, but to each there own. That is why I am asking.

Oh, but not all of us on this side of the pond get certain phrases wrong! When I was a kid I realized that saying "I could care less" when you actually mean you COULDN'T care less didn't make any sense, so I always say "I couldn't care less." :D

As for our cute pronunciation of aluminum, I've never understood why the Brits add an extra "i" to it. :eek: Same for specialty, and I'm an avid Gordon Ramsay fan so I hear him say "spesh-ee-al-i-ty" a lot. :)
