Is there an iTunes alternative for Android?

Hi guys,

I plan on getting an android phone soon and I would just like to know how you guys manage your music and podcasts. Back when I had an iPhone I simply used iTunes to buy my music and films, get apps, subscribe to podcasts and synchronise them between my PC and phone.

With my windows phone, I used zune to do the same thing before it got discontinued and I went back to iTunes and currently I'm using a combination of iTunes and the Windows Phone App for desktop... it's rather cumbersome. I was wondering if there is any sort of application for the android that I can install on my desktop, get all my films, movies, apps, music and podcasts and then syncronise them between my phone and PC in a way similar to iTunes? Or do I have to use different pieces of software to accomplish the various tasks?

I've searched this forum and found helpful posts that answer some of my questions, (Double twist has popped up quite a few times) but either I'm not looking hard enough (which I'm not ruling out) or my question hasn't quite been answered to the extent I'm looking for. Does Double twist have a podcast facility for example? What about buying apps? Since it itself is an app I doubt that functionality will be there. Anyway I look forward to hearing your insight.

I recommmend Media Monkey on your Windows desktop. It will sync with Android out of the box. There is a beta Android Media Monkey app, but any good media apps will find the files and playlists. I use Power Amp on my Nexus 4.

Media Monkey to sync between PC and Android, and Jet Audio Plus to listen to the music. As far as sound, it stomps all over Power Amp.

Another option is DoubleTwist. Free in the Play Store.

It can sync more than just phones and can import playlists, etc from your itunes.

I use just my pc file explorer to copy my media files. You don't really need anything else.

Thanks for the help guys, it appears that whatever I use, I will still have to rely on iTunes... I can live with that though. Can Double Twist sync podcasts?

I still use iTunes to maintain my library... its easiest because my wife still has an IPhone, so its one place to maintain all of our stuff.

Then I use ISyncr to sync the music to my Android phone.

Finallly I use Rocket Player to play my music, because it works with ISyncr and ITunes to maintain all my play counts, play times, and * ratings across my devices.

Can't speak for podcasts but yeah, isyncr is definitely your friend. It syncs all your play lists in the order they are on iTunes, can do it over wifi too which is cool. Think it does podcasts too though I haven't tested this
