Is there any app that makes background black?

Don't know of any app that can do that, but Dolphin HD has a brightness app that u can install to lower said browser's display.

I may be wrong, but I don't think black on the Evo saves any battery power at all. It's not an amoled screen.

check out the themes section on xda. there is not a one fits all app but there are alot of themed apps with black backgrounds.

it may not save battery life but it looks much better

Look for 'Colors' in the market (don't think it's spelt 'colours'). This allows you to set your wallpaper to various solid colours.

For those who don't want to mess around with files, the easiest way to get a pure black wallpaper / background is to download the free Back2Black app from Android Market:
http://market.android.com/details?id=com.Back2Black

NOTE: Taking a "black" photo does not create pure black due to artifacts of JPEG compression. You'll also end up with a file up to 1.5 MB instead of 3 KB, which wastes space on your phone. And performance for all home functions may not be as quick.

Way I understand it, black on an lcd is the most power consuming color.

Putting voltage to a red green or blue subpixel on an lcd turns it black to block the backlight. Give it no power and the backlight shines through (and gets colored red green or blue by a filter)

solid white screen = no power to all subpixels
solid blue = power to all red and all green etc. etc.

But the actual liquid crystal part of an lcd barely consumes any power, its the backlight that sucks it up. On an amoled there is no backlight and a black screen= no power going to it. White screen=max power going to it.
