Is this a Handcent problem or an Optimus V problem?

I very much like my Optimus V and while I don't do all that much texting Handcent seems to be a very good program. The only issue I have with it is that after I receive a text message (and whether I delete the thread or not) I get a repeat of that same message once or several times later in the day.

I am wondering who the culprit is, the phone or the program? Is there a setting or a work-around that can keep this from happening?

I have handcent on all my phones and haven't had this problem. Is it a notification duplicate of the message? Like in the status bar it tells you again you have a message? Do you have the stock text app notifications turned off?
Do you read/open the text and you still get the same message again?

Yes it's a duplicate of the message. The status bar says there is a message and I've turned off the stock app notifications.
And I do get the repeated message even after I have read it and whether or not I have deleted the thread.
It's a head scratcher.

If you uninstall Handcent, does the issue persist?
