Is this guy being oversensitive?

So this story is all over the news here locally. A local Jiffy Lube has been completely shut down for several days costing who knows how much money while the corporate office investigates. The more I read about it the more I get ticked off at the guy this happened to.

Long story short, some guy of middle eastern descent apparently goes in to get his oil changed. He hears the tech making fun of his car. Now, I'm smart enough to know that crap like that probably happens every day. But in this case, the customer heard it and decided he wanted to take his car elsewhere. Kind of dumb to me, but it's his money and his car. At that point, things go south and the tech ends up shouting racial slurs at him. Completely unacceptable. Tech deserves to lose his job. No question about it. But this grown man describes himself as "appalled and nearly in tears." Come on. This is ridiculous. His fiancee is hurt that anyone would insult him since he's educated and a "pillar of the community" Ugh.

So he calls the store after he gets home and asks for a manager. Perfectly reasonable action. Manager tells him to come back and they can discuss it. Perfectly reasonable again. Yet this guy makes a point of saying he's "terrified for his life". When he comes back in things go south and the employee in question actually shoves him (according to his story anyway). He claims that he literally ran from the store terrified for his life. Then, rather than call up Jiffy Lube management, or the cops, or both he plasters the thing all over Facebook along with a rant about how great he is and how he doesn't deserve this kind of treatment and is now apparently scarred because of it.

Am I the only one who thinks this is a gigantic overreaction on this guys part? His entire letter (linked below, contains censored profanity so you were warned) just reeks of pure drama queen. The guy got bad customer service. No question. The guy has every right to complain to Jiffy Lube and the guy who made the comments should be fired. But the whole incident is just bathed in so much drama it's ridiculous and it's gone viral here locally. Am I the only one who thinks this guy majorly overreacted? From what I'm hearing the tech involved has lost his job (as he should've), the manager of the store may have lost his job as well and the customer here posted the phone number, contact information, addresses, etc.... for the employee who allegedly did this as well as for the employees relatives. Sadly some of the information was inaccurate and some old lady here is now getting harassing phone calls but this customer has no interest in changing the information so the calls continue.

Here is thd Jiffy Lube letter

I totally understand how you would first tend to think "man up..drama queen" ! believe me I'm all for shut it and man up...however.... It was so blatantly disgustingly trashy and down right racist and aggressive of that worker to say and do those things to him that I have no doubt he was afraid for his life...being a woman I can relate....you just never know what kind of crazy is out there! You might not have a care in the world walking to your car in a deserted parking lot where I have to be aware and alert and watch for frickin predators..it's a different kind of mentality that we have to live with. My gosh there are lynchings and gay hate murders, rape, arab american and Indian american etc.. hate crimes and murders ..... all the time..! I feel bad for him. I feel worse for the worker...what a sorry excuse for a human being....then again he works at jiffy jube...probably will never amount to anything more...
hmmmmmm karma:)

I have no respect for anyone who makes fun of someone or their belongings or talks trash to them.

A place of business should be welcoming and respecting their customers. Not taking customers for granted and bagging on them. The worker deserves to lose his job.

The customer may have overreacted. But at least he stood up. I would have let them finish the job, and i would have not returned in the future. I would have done the wrong thing. Im glad this guy stood up and fought the ignorance.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that it's true or trueish at least. I just think he's being a huge drama queen with the "they made fun of my car" crap and they "I ran for my life nearly in tears" crap. I'm a minority and have racial slurs tossed at me on occasion. I can't say I've ever been terrified for my life from the threats of a complete and total stranger. Clearly Jiffy Lube was in the wrong if there's any truth at all to the story I just think the guy way, way, way over reacted. It's like someone bumping into you in a crowd so you punch them in the face. Bit over the top.

Well, the lube shop employee happens to be a convicted felon and did lose his job over the entire incident. So the corporate office seemed to think he was in the wrong. Letter kind of went viral here locally and ended up on a number of different sites. Jiffy Lube shutting down the entire store (and it's still shut down to my knowledge) seems extremely bizarre to me.

I have a strange feeling the customer wasn't so nice to them to cause such a strong reaction from the worker, especially causing him to shove him. I've had some horrible things said to me while working retail and none of them got me near the point of doing physical harm to anyone.

I just read his posting too. He points out how he's rich and successful multiple times throughout his rant as if he's belittling the oil tech worker or something. His choices of adjectives tries to paint the picture of the tech worker as 100% the evil and he's a saint to society. Almost to the point of trying too hard to make this point, makes it really fishy as there's definitely something missing from the other side of the story.

On my first reactions, there's definitely something missing from his story. Yes the worker over reacted and any time you lose your cool enough to cuss out a customer let alone touch them, it's grounds for being fired. But I'm almost positive the customer isn't the angel he's pretending to be either.

The worker targets "trust fund baby" a lot and with the way the customer wrote his rant mentioning he's rich all the time, I wouldn't doubt if things about him being rich and better than the worker had slipped out of his mouth during the argument.

Who knows, maybe it is 100% accurate and my thoughts are completely wrong. But just my two cents that there's probably something big he left out that he did to cause the worker to become so angry.

I don't think he is being over sensitive at all. I think it was all an act and being a drama queen to try and set himself up for a payday in court. There is no way that anyone could have that type of reaction and honestly be scared for their lives because of someone making fun of their car.

That is one of the biggest problems with society. Every pretends to be offended about everything because someone else says they should be offended. Then people just want to make a payday in court instead of working for anything.

agreed.... everyone wants a free ride on someone elses dime

prime example...

and to be honest I havent followed to closely... just bits and pieces on this story

we had a carnival cruise ship stranded in the gulf....... for days the media has done nothing but report the deplorable conditions the stranded passengers are struggling through.....

they got off the boat last night...... there are already numerous lawsuits being filed......... because they were subjected to such attrocities.... and the media is their supporting evidence

listening to some interviews from passengers today..... many said the conditions werent very bad at all...... one even went on to talk about how yesterday (supposedly the worst day of it) he dined on a crab sandwich and lobster for lunch.... he said their were lines an hour long to get food because much of the ship was closed off... and they were asked to conserve water ... but otherwise everything we were told is false

yet we still have numerous lawsuits...... and every one of them will be awarded $millions for their having to suffer through lines for lobster

still havent seen the supposed video from this guy who claims he was in fear of his life at Jiffy Lube

Souds like Kindergardten kids, they should just grow up. Life's not fair. Deal with it already.

Given that the store staff should treat customers properly, there is a way of making an complaint without being a drama queen.
This is a bit too over dramatic for me...
