Is this normal Android behaviour?

I bought into this Android thing big time about 18 months ago. Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Galaxy S2. Both seemed good at the time, had great reviews etc.
So here I am, wondering where it all went wrong. Both items are so slow as to be unusable for browsing, pages just take forever to even start to download, I'm talking 30 seconds. The touch screen interface in the browsers stink, can just keep on stabbing the screen and it's ignored but is fine in other "local" apps.
I've tried two browsers, both as bad as each other.
It's the same on wi-fi and 3g.
It's not as if these are low end devices, all updates have been applied (ics ) etc
The Internet is full of people claiming similar problems browsing on Android so what's going on.
I must have been perfectly happy when I bought the items or I would have returned them. I don't play or install games, I don't use so-called battery savers or other miracle utilities, I just want to be able to use the Internet when I'm away from home.
My pc works great so I am reaching the point of stamping on these Samsungs and going for another laptop.
So, what's it like for others, any Comments?

Whats your devices memory usage look like? If a phone is performing slow it is typically because it is almost at its limits, so naturally it will become slow, much like any other personal computer (PC) would.

8.4G used out of 13.11Gb on the Tab
1.2Gb still available out of 1.97Gb on the S2

The devices themselves seem fast enough when not using the Internet.
Email is fast unless it involves downloading and displaying html.
I'm just so disappointed :-(

The first couple of things I'd try are rebooting (if you haven't lately), and cleaning the cache on your browser.

I'd recommend this as well, but also, if your S2 has been upgraded to ICS and then JB, a factory reset would help clear out any bugs.
My Gnex is comparable to an S2 and has been running great since the day I bought it. The occasional reboot, factory reset and cache cleaning can do wonders. :)

Also, had you been using task killers and so called memory and RAM optimizers on it? If so, those things cause Android to slow down in the long run similar to what you are experiencing.

A factory reset should only be done as an absolute last resort. I've used Android since v1.0 on many devices and never done a reset to solve a problem. You say you have the same slowness on 2 different devices, making it very unlikely a reset will help.

As described your problem apparently is a slow wireless data and/or WiFi connection. Solve that for a fix.

i've learned to live with them being a bit slow and laggy from time to time. i cannot expect iPad performance unless i got Nexus devices only. my Nexus 7 has never slowed down at all. but i keep it mostly stock and is one of the reasons i bought it, when you start customizing and changing things like the launcher and such, things get laggy. the customizations come at a performance cost.

it does seem however that over time, the longer you have it, like MS Windows on a laptop, it gets clogged up and a factory reset (aka wiping the hard drive) is the only solution, even though that should never happen as Android is based on linux. i have noticed that depending on the amount of use in a given time, that Android completely lacks the ability to properly manage memory and eventually leads to a random restart. today my phone rebooted itself twice while playing music from Play, and just before it did so, the memory usage jumped to 89%. it normally never gets above 80-82% on a normal day.

Rebooting every once in a while is a good thing, you may also want to try more browsers, as Google Chrome is such a resource hog and uses up too much resources making the tablets a lot slower.

funny, Chrome is the one browser that works perfectly fine for me. Firefox has a memory leak bug, Dolphin got bloated and has this issue loading multiple tabs, Opera is way obsolete, and Chrome was in the same boat with Firefox until one of their more recent updates. it's faster than the stock browser. the Tab 2 10.1 has more than enough hardware to run Chrome.

FYI the Tab 2 10.1 isn't going to compare with an iPad if you're using that for a comparison of performance. at best, it's akin to the first-gen iPad hardware-wise.
