Is this phone any good?

I have been looking at various reviews of this phone and while mixed it seems good for the cost. Would like to hear some feedback from someone who actually owns one and uses it day to day. I am buying it for the wife at Xmas, I have a Desire and while I dont expect it to come near that it still looks pretty good and usable.

How is the touchscreen, have seen vids of people using stylus's on the screen is this necessary?
I take it the front is glass so if she was using a Stylus it wouldn't scratch?
How is using the keyboard and would she be able to use Skype if I happened to be able to get it for her?

I have noticed that this phone is now Rootable, might be interesting if some Dev starts doing Roms for it.

Anyway I think that is all I want to know for now.

I think its not too bad nice size Ryan has had a bad time with it. but apart from myself breaking the screen I've had no problems with it. You dont need a stylus and if I remember skype is on it. Big saleing point for me is its size.

Thanks for that, took the wife to the 3 shop the other day to take a look at it. She was quite impressed and as you say it isn't too big. She doesnt like my Desire as compared to all the phones she has ever had it is huge.

Just need to go out and get it now.

Yes not everyone is up too carrying huge phone that is expensive to replace. Desires awesome but mine is used as a homephone/emails its even replacing my laptop as the weapon of choice for web surfing on the couch. I love my G1 too but its a brick compared to my racer. Too me it filled a space between my old java work phone and my Android phones.

guys the zte racer is an all roundc budget 2.1 eclair smartphone it may have low ram byt it amazingly has a higher spec cpu than the wildfire. racer has 598mhz where wildfire is only 518 which is dissapointing for an adroid smartphone

i have both racer and wildfire my racer is rooted with custom recovery and currently working on a custom 2.2 rom with more free ram and cpu overclock @ 728mhz

check back soon and i should have it up and running :)
