Is this phone worth buying?

I'm still with a LG KP500 and I'm getting sick of it's lack of features such as WiFi and all that. The Samsung Galaxy Y has caught my eye on YouTube video reviews and gaming videos. From the looks it can handle games really well and the features don't seem too bad.

I almost have collected the money to get it and I'm thinking of doing it at the end of this month, but before I do I would like to hear some suggestions/tips from the people that have already used it for a while.

Any pro's and cons please? Because once I buy it and if I don't like it, I don't think I will get a chance to get another one soon, maybe in later years. :D

Euros = 137

first to start this is amazing phone at this cost it's amazing entry level smart phone and trust me it gives even big boy's run for there money hope u got it;);)

now i wud start with CONS first as this phone has got lots of PRO'S
1]camera is big let down it has just 2.1 megapixel
2]display is another issue 240x320 pixels[~133 ppi pixel density]:(:(
3]it dunn have secondary camera and video recording is QVGA @15fps
4]battery backup battery drains out quickly[but u can use some tweaks and make it run for longer times]

this are some CONS which i found after using this phone for 2 months now and as far as CONS go i guess they are pretty normal one which can be handled now some PRO'S

1]it has very powerful processor which reads 836MHZ ARMV6[for entry level this is just awesome]
2]it has latest android operating system which is GINGERBREAD 2.3[and can be updated at any given time using KIES]
3]it has samsung famous touchwiz ui and backed upby accelerometer for playing motion sensor games:D:D
4]can play any kind of videos using MXVIDEO Player;)
5]can play any flash video by installing flash player from any site [ even metacafe and other site videos are playable]
6]all most many apps are compatible with this phone i hardly found an app thats not compatible with this phone;);)
7]the voice quality of this phone is amazing awesome sound quality while on call superb sound quality while listening to music wid 5.1 surround sound:p:p:p

and yeah there are many PRO'S but i guess this are more then enough to show this phone is best and then there are many reviews too and trust me u wont regret for a sec aftr owning this phone

so before concluding i wud say go for it and man seriously u wud be happy undoubtedly best smartphone at this price hope u got some clarity regarding this phone

and lastly u can even install custom roms on this phone and play HD games by just installing chainfire 3d phew lemme finish this or else i wud be typing every PRO which i noticed and wud make an essay in here:D:D:p:p

If you looking for an android then go for htc anymodel accordingto your pocket size ,as of now samsung has many issues,like battery,incoming call issues ,hangs,slow,etc etc etc

@andran - Here the HTC models are really expensive, I'm surprised this phone is so cheap for an android phone. :O

I have another question. Is installing customs ROMs and stuff such as chainfire 3d hard and dangerous? Could it break my phone? Same goes for rooting. I never used such thing and I have a feeling I will f it up in no time if I try. To me an android phone looks like a totally different computer/OS in which I have no knowledge at all.

well mitk0o0o0 was ma pleasure mate as i really loved dis phone so i managed some time for writing it's pro's as well as cons

now battery issue dis has been issue for almost every android phone and galaxy y is no exception but by installing superscript charger battery pro and juice defender u can get good battery life i manage 1 day backup aftr playing videos surfing net and playing games so battery backup is surely solvable so no big issue in dere

now ur second query installing custom roms are very simple u dunn need rocket science to install dem dey are easily installable and XDA FORUMS have awesome devs who not only construct dem but also explain very well how to install dem

now chainfire 3d is an app which is installed to play games its like it reduces games resolution stops some apps and help u play game and making sure u dunn face any lags but u may get some lags as u cant expect galaxy y do wat S2 or APPLE does;););)

now rooting is very simple no alien ware which cant be handled itz just a 2.4 mb file needed to be copied on sd card and den install it and u have XDA FORUMS as i mentioned to get used to all dis stuff wid out bricking ur phone

so overall u dunn need to worry installing dis stuff as dere are many forums which explain each and every parameter about chainfire rooting or custom roms so once u own dis phone u wud learn it quite easily

Is there a way to unbrick the phone if rooting goes wrong? Seen some replies by people that followed instructions well yet they still got some error and bricked it.

Sucks to do something risky to play awesome games.. :(

yeah there are ways to un brick ur phone if u bricked it u can flash rom if u unbricked it using odin and SKIN'S CWM so its not dat issue
 
Sorry for the stupid question again but is it true that i could catch malware or brick it by just installing an app that is not compatible? :eek:

nope u wont brick ur phone if u try 2 install an app which is not compatible it wud say app not installed thats it and as far as malware goes den nope as u wud be installing apps frm market and its quite safe frm dere so dunn wry u wont find any foreign bodies in ur phone :D:D:D:D

I just bought it today, so far I have installed Angry Birds. :)
 
I just buy the phone too because my very2 old phone (it's not touch screen phone) is broken.
After i read this thread, i know that the good and bad about my phone.

well first of all im glad u liked my review which helped u 2 buy dis phone so thanks once again mate

now there are many wonderful applications to be installed on dis wonderful phone but many needs rooting so i urge u 2 root ur phone to get complete access to awesome apps and dunn worry about voiding ur warranty as u can unroot it again to bring back ur warranty so i wud say give it a try if u root den dere are many apps like i stated to go wid some
cpu tuner
chainfire3d
bs player lite
flash player
rom manager
titanium backup
link2sd and many more but sadly all need rooting:(:(

now how to set ringtone well its very easy there is an app called music in ur rom it is found in first page of ur rom so click on dat and long press any song which u wud want 2 keep as ur ringtone dere u wud get options in dat u wud find set as ringtone and just click on dat and its done

and for apps and games i suggest u 2 visit dis thread

i was searched in "setting - sound" and found nothing that link to my mp3 files. :rolleyes:
