Help is worth it to buy a triumph and its issues?

i heard triumph has LOTS of problems and buggy but does installing a custom rom fix all its issues? the only reason i want a triumph is a bigger screen and my grandfather plan :p

The Triumph is a mixed bag. Some have problems out the wazoo straight outta the box, others see issues over time. (Like me) All in all, depending on the type of issues you're having, a custom ROM can fix most of the problems.

The stock ROM is buggy as hell for sure, so you'll want to get off that ASAP. I've never used any of the Froyo based ROMs but if you want everything to work like stock, but better, go with that. The last ROM I used was CM7-G60 Final, and that was as good as it gets. Everything works on Gingerbread ROMs except HDMI out.

Just watch out for hardware issues like the USB charging port and you should be fine.

I am running Starship Triumph along with b kernel and everything is quite smooth. I also ran the V6 Supercharger which made my phone faster and more responsive.

For me the problem was the GPS. For the life of me I could not get it to consistently lock on. I tried every fix in the book, and after about 5 months I broke down and got a replacement phone. It was like night and day, GPS was great. And as an added side effect I was able to overclock to quite a bit higher frequency on the same kernel. Needless to say if it was not for the development going on with triumph I would be highly disappointed. But with all of that said, if I was in your position shopping around for an upgrade... I would get a different phone... unless you can get a triumph for a steal ( I'd say 100 bucks or cheaper).
Just 1 user's humble opinion :^)

I say that if you can get one cheap, go for it. I moved from the OV and, even with its issues, it's still miles ahead.

I actually traded my old bb curve 8530 for a triumph with a bad screen, sent it in now i have a new phone... the main issue i am worried about is the charge port, trying to be as carefull as possible.
I am using the sharp 2.2.2 and the difference is amazing!!!

I am gonna stay with tge triumph until black friday hopefully the evo v will be cheap to buy

charging port is a big issue. my v has this issue as well.. it is pretty annoying when the battery die and not charging... still struggling
im waiting the triumph on sale.. if it is cheap i think i will get 1 for sure..

sound like fragile...

I've had mine almost a year, no problems. Tried most of the roms; some are better than others. The two smoothest are the go60 gb and the sharp froyo. Ended up on the gb, its real slick and has wireless tether. For the money specs and plan, its hard to beat.

It depends on what price you buy it at.

For 229+ I dont think its worth it at all.

For 129. Yes its a decent deal. (price from last year black friday and 25dollar grandfathered plan)

It has annoying issues like random restarts, random freeze ups, slow GPS, etc. And stuck on OS 2.2 with no updates at all from VM or Motorola.

I would just buy a htc one v instead of the triumph.

If your coming from any other old VM 25dollar plan phones then the Triumph is great.
I came from the opt V. The screen size is so nice at 4.1in and I couldnt imagine goingto a smaller screen.

it sounds like a bet buying a triumph.. im having the V now, and has a usb issue. it doesnt charge sometimes, but it is annoying enough when i need the phone and no battery... i afraid the triumph may might the same problem or the port failed entirely. perhaps, this is the worst problem on any smart phones
btw, great hear for you have no problmes with your triumph :)

Can you get the lg optimus elite and stay on the 25dollar plan?
I forget what the release date was for that one. its cheaper then the triumph and better then the opt v

ok... i bought the triumph as i found out there's a 1 year warranty.....if it broke.. i guess i will the join the warranty replacement..and the $25 plan meant too much to me... lol
thank you for all the advices :)

Did you get it at radio shack? They have them on sale right now for $169 at local stores. I ended up picking up a used one for $115 locally but the 169 price tag is pretty great for new

thanks for the info!!

I loved my MT, first one had issues but i got a replacement under warranty then I had no problems. Decided to finally root it and loved it even more. I got mine at the original cost of $300 haha and it still runs nice today. It was the best VM phone I had ever used.

I upgraded from the OV to the Triumph for similar reasons as others (larger screen, faster processor, larger internal storage, etc.). I really like the OV and it served me well. I also did my research before settling with my Triumph. I have not regretted it for one second. I truly believe the USB issue is a design flaw with the cord itself. How many of us use our phone while plugged in and find the USB cord getting pushed into the top of your desk and putting undue stress on the port. I think they could have had the cord make a 90 degree turn parallel to the bottom of the phone and remove that added stress.

Keep in mind, Virgin Mobile is the Black Sheep of Sprint and really doesn't provide much in regards to updates. We use this service for various reasons, most because it's all we can afford, and this also limits what our choices are for phones. Go ahead and drop $600 on an iPhone but will it out perform the Triumph? Probably. But, you would also be better of going to Spring, AT&T etc. and signing up for their 2 year plan and getting the iPhone for a lot less.

If you buy the other 4G phones thinking your going to get faster internet speeds, that will only happen if you have 4G available in your area. Virgin Mobile wont likely have 4G in our area any time soon because we have several areas with no 3G at all. It's SLOWLY getting better.

I paid $279 for my phone and I am pretty happy with it. If you can get it cheaper, I suggest you do so. I am just kinda ticked off at myself for starting to play Angry Birds. That game is too darn addictive.

i got phone from radioshack for total 185. it is much cheaper than VM
so far i love it, but still need to test all functionalities and make sure they all work
thanks you all for advices~~ and TricyclthiefNew for letting me know radioshack sell xD
