ISO a better sync manager?

I'm wondering if there is an app out there that will let me manage sync options better.

For example, I don't mind Google checking my email every couple of hours, but I'm not interested it syncing my calendar or contacts every couple of hours. Once a day is plenty for those, but I STILL want them to sync.

Apparently Android has this all or none mentality and surely there is a more flexible way to do this.

Any suggestions?
