Help Issue moving from one Android to Another

I got an HD2 running froyo. It is not a dual boot with froyo on the SD card, but a full http://www.everythingandroid.org/forum/# install. Even after a hard reset using volume and power buttons the last owner's GMail account and other apps remain and can't be deleted. I added my addy and then tried to delete addy #1 without success. So I now have my 200+ contacts and the PO's 100 as well.
Any ideas?

Coming from a Vibrant.

Did you do a Factory data reset? This would erase all data from your phone including your google account and download apps.

Yup. I held the vol up and down buttons then toggled the power button. Got the reset screen and hit the vol up button. Got the warning that all data would be erased and went through with it. Did this 3 times.
Gmail account still there. I am stumped.

OK. Just did a soft reset and 2 hard resets. Data still there including call log and text messages. Neither seem to do anything.
