Help issue with gallery on Note 3

roman90SU

Lurker
ive had this phone for a few weeks now. i bought it 2nd hand, which isnt exactly the best idea, but it worked flawlessly before today.

this morning, i check my gallery and see what i have on my phone and what i want to delete and the phone freezes up when trying to open gallery. the camera works fine, unless you are trying to open gallery from there. every other app works fine. i checked the facebook app, play store, books, email, S note, music, etc etc etc. the gallery is the only issue it seems.

a few minutes ago though, gallery was able to open, but the pictures are all grey'd out and one or 2 of them are able to load up. if you try clicking on an image or if you try scrolling through the pictures, it gets even more slow. then i got a message one time that "gallery is having a problem" with options of wait or close.

when i bought this phone, the guy said it was rooted with some darthstalker thing. he explained its like jailbreaking an iphone, which that made sense to me. i know what jailbreaking is. i am new to the android stuff, so i am trying to learn what i can.

i also asked another guy and he said it could be that i installed a 2nd gallery, but thats impossible. i know what i download from play store, and i dont download from anywhere else.

i just did a factory reset. i honestly think its something with this root or rom or whatever it is. i had slow downs and bug problems with my iphone once i jailbreaked it. its fun when its possible to customize your phone in many ways, but the bugs, slowdowns, glitches, etc isnt worth it.

i tried quickpic and this works wonders. ill use this till i figure out what the hell is going on.

edit: my gallery works now. im not sure what the problem was, but i deleted the pictures i tried taking today when my phone was acting up. and i also found a photo that wasnt amongst my back up folder for my photos. doing a factory reset deleted any apps i may have inadvertently downloaded without realizing, and deleting those pictures with quickpic helped too.

Only five of about a hundred pics were grayed out in my Note 3 Gallery. I took the advice and downloaded Quick Pic and then went back and attempted to open those five gray pics. Now I can see them! However, each pic has an odd little shape in the bottom corner that appears to resemble Picasa -- yet I don't have that app on my phone.

I took the advice & cleared the Gallery app cache and that didn't help the situation. I connected my Note 3 to my laptop and transferred the pictures which erased everything from my phone, EXCEPT the five photos in question!!

Essentially, all I want to do is got those pics out of the Gallery. Not sure why they're there since I had snapped them two years ago & I'm using a new card in a new phone. And is that a Picasa symbol? I'm stumped. Any suggestions?

That actually sounds like those pictures were corrupt to me. A bigger issue is that if I had a phone that was rooted by someone else I'd be wiping it and reinstalling a rom from scratch to make sure there wasn't anything on the phone that could log, track, spy or otherwise invade my privacy. Along with all the cool things you can do with root there are also a few sneaky things you can do too. The chances are really slim that anyone would do that but there's still a chance. At a bare minimum I'd odin the stock rom and then reroot just to make sure I had a fresh start. You can get all the files you need over at xda and it's pretty easy to do yourself.
