Issue with Kies3

Can someone please set me straight on what I'm missing here? I'm trying to backup my old Note5 to my pc and just downloaded Kies3 but when I connect my phone to the PC it(Kies3) keeps telling me I have to unlock my phone but it is unlocked. Is there some setting I have to change on the phone to get it to connect to Kies3?

Is there a different app that works better than Kies3?

Any help will be much appreciated!!

kies 3 does not support the note 5. you will either have to use smart switch (samsungs replacement for kies) or use the backup feature in your settings.
