Help Issue with Status Bar notifications

When I first got my phone (S3), I my notifications showed up on the notifications bar (status bar) on the top of my phone's screen.

However, today I noticed that I'm not receiving any emails (I usually get between 40 - 80 a day), and I pull down the bar, and voila there's the emails. But when I moved it back up, there still wasn't any notification (just some weird icon of an "I" that is circled with a line drawn through it.

So, what I want to know, is how to get rid of that irritating "I" and get my notifications back. Thanks in advance.

I can't remember the proper name for that icon but I know which one you mean. Its to do with 3g/4g data, pull down the notification bar and scroll along the icons at the top then uncheck it that should work. Its very easy to click it by mistake, I did it a few times myself.

its the notifications icon that means notifications are turned off. the toggle button has the same icon. nothing to do with 3g or 4g data
