This isn't so much a problem as a solution. My Moto G operated as normally until yesterday when it suddenly began speaking when i'd get a text, saying who it was from, etc. I did not change any settings on my own, so it baffled me. I searched around and found no solutions, since i did not turn on talk back, and did not have any drive mode enabled.
It turns out the solution was simple. I had to go into Assist, the motorola help app, and it had an option that turned itself on enabling it to speak when i got a text or call. I'm not sure why the option was turned on, but there you go. If anyone else somehow finds themselves with the same problem, there is the solution.
