Help Issues After 2.2.1 Upgrade

Nexu Sone

Lurker
After upgrading to 2.2.1 yesterday on my Nexus One (un-rooted, Vodafone), I had to re-install Google Maps, as it was somehow removed, and the stock Google News & Weather widget (com.google.android.apps.genie.geniewidget) force closes any time I try to click on it or add it to a page.

Any ideas what might have caused maps to be removed and why the Google News & Weather wiget would break?

Following a reboot, you might have success with the weather-news/genie app by going into the application manager and clearing cache and data, then rebooting again.

Tried that (several times, actually) with no success. I first noticed the issue when the data was frozen on screen (shortly following the 2.2.1 upgrade). When I clicked the widget, it would give me the force close/report dialog. After clearing data and a restart it only shows "connecting..." but never gets any further. Trying to add the widget to a new screen results in the same Force Close/Report dialog. Here's the data from the crash report in case it helps:

from what i see ,the system specs are wrong ...

stock should be like this :

Baseband : 32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.12_7
Kernel : 2.6.32.9-27240-gbca5320 android-build@apa26 #1

I have the following:

Android version : 2.2.1
Baseband version : 32.50.00.32U_5.12.00.08
Kernel version : 2.6.32.9-g6624e39 htc-kernel@and18-2 #1
Build number : FRG83D

Maybe the difference is because it's Vodafone? I hear they like to make special "improvements" (even to stock) before it gets released to customers... Unfortunately, I've never been able to find out what those differences are.

from what i've heared ,they modify the radio version ,and some minor thing in the version ...that f*ck-up the whole system [as they allways do]

i used to have 2.1 build EPF30 when i got mine ,unlocked bootloader ,and installed the original system

While I have been thinking about rooting, I was a bit worried there were some actual differences with the radio that might be affected using a different ROM. It all seems a bit excessive to fix a broken widget. Still, thanks for the suggestion!

maybe ... but at least i can update the thing allmost instantly :D

i for one don't mind ...i have no warranty anyway ,and i'm on Cosmote .
didn't upgrade or downgrade the radio ,and have no issues with it.
