issues after ics upgrade

Using a galaxy s2 sgh l777 with att since last november, totally awesome. Upgrade via kies to ics last week now many problems. 12 hour battery, freezes up trying to answer calls, messaging and videos to name a few. Jumps around searching contacts and looking for past messages. Wow dont they test this stuff? Any ideas?

Yes. In another thread on the various issues encountered, Lunatics59 (a moderator) recommended a factory reset after backing up all the data. This includes wiping the SD card. Your apps will download automatically - cleanly. This has made a huge difference to my phone. It's a pain to set everything to be just where I wanted it, but the work is well worth it. I went from having to charge/change the battery 3x per day down to 1 recharge at night. And the whole thing seems to run much smoother and faster.

How would someone go about backing everything up before performing the factory reset? I have some similar issues as well, eg. contact avatars not being applied to messages or widgets.
