Help Issues connecting to PC?

When I connect the phone to PC MTP application starts, vibrates a few times then just exits, phone not detected by computer. What am I doing wrong? If I open Kies, the phone just keeps vibrating and disconnecting. On the HTC Desire when you connected to a PC there you had options of USB mass storage etc, this just goes straight into MTP Application and messes about, and I can't see any way to switch to USB mass storage.

On your phone go to :menu>settings>wireless and networks>USB settings. In here you will have the following: Samsung Kies, Media Player, Mass Storage and Ask on connection.
If you select Ask on connection, the phone will ask you which one you want to use.
