Help Issues: Is it the Razr?

I've had my Razr for about 2 weeks now. And have been seeing some really irritating issues. I have been reading forums and trying to find answers or see if this is even normal. Here's what's going on (no phone I've had was rooted, they're all stock).

Lately, everything is running really slow. Trying to add a widget...well, the screen takes about 5 seconds to load. Open up my App window? Give me 2-3 seconds. Open up any app? At least 2 seconds. Open the camera, 4-5 seconds. I have read I should clear out my texts constantly and reboot every few days (Really? That's what it takes for it to work fast?). I have downloaded about 6 apps and use 3 emails (gmail, yahoo, work). So obviously I am not some power user by any means.

And the big one in the slow category? I can't type without it lagging. I have tried 4 different keyboards and they have all the same problem. I type, it shows I hit the key (pop-up on or off), but it only registers only half the keystrokes.

Then today, I used Google Music in my car via BT. On my Dinc, I could control the phone with my cars controls. With the Razr, sometimes it works, but most times it doesn't. My car also says it's on "pause" or "00:00" while it's playing. With the Dinc, if I shut off my car, the BT disconnected and Music stopped. With the Razr, it just keeps playing. Has anyone else noticed this issue? I really like using Google Music in my car.

I am awaiting a shipment of Maxx's to upgrade, but now I'm not so sure. The big things to me is no lag on typing or viewing things (nominal is fine, but 2+ seconds for almost anything, isn't). I don't even care about 4g. I keep wondering if I should go to the Rezound since I'm used to HTC and wonder if it'll work seamlessly like my Dinc did.

So, is this a Moto thing? Is it just the way its set up? Am I better off with a Rezound and hope it works like my Dinc? (I may need to find someone who has one to test it in my car). Thoughts?

thanks for reading and helping

I've onlonly had mine a few hours but I'm not seeing those issues.

I didn't see these issues until after a week of playing with it and downloading apps or adding them to the main screens to personalize it. It was then I started seeing it slow down. Trust me, it was lightening fast when I first got it. I was really impressed with it. Now, not so much.

Hope you have better luck (I already had to return a previous defective one).

Ok now you are scaring me....have you tried the update they have released ?

a couple of other thoughts, as I have had mine since 11-11-11.

- I like rebooting my phone every couple of days. It refreshes the ram and closes any apps that are open in the background. (The bummer being apps that you think you have closed are still running)

- Have you moved apps from the phone to the sd card?

- Look at the apps you don't use or hog space. I purchased various live wallpapers that I have removed.

Do you have the memory loaded up too much...which apps did you install and how much memory are they hogging?

Just a guess...

I'm assuming I can check this by looking at what is running and how much space is used versus free? If so, without me stopping anything, the RAM I have is 365mb used and 308mb free. On the apps storage, 696mb used, 2.3gb free.

So is this a normal amount? High?
Wow, smart actions uses up the most RAM.

You have 308MB of free ram. That isn't you're problem.

I did a reboot when people suggested it. It didn't do a darn thing. :(
I just moved 2 apps over to the sd card (all the rest are there)
Since the phone is new, there's nothing that I don't use....yet.

Just so we're clear, by rebooting, I'm assuming you mean turn the phone off and turn it back on, right?

Yes, turning the phone off and back on is your reboot.

Are you having these problems with wifi usage. Just another thought, but if you are having bad 3g, that could also slow it down (I think).

If it continues to seem slow, probably just return it for testing. I really can't compare to the ReZound, which my wife has had for a month now, as I find it hard to use it (HTC) after being use to my OG Droid and now the Razr.

I hope you can resolve it soon.

Good to know about the reboot (just in case). I haven't had any issues with the WiFi or even 4g. In fact, I've been getting great reception. Thanks for the suggestions. I came from HTC, so this Moto stuff is weird. haha.

I just didn't get why all of a sudden it's super slow. I'll try another reboot today to see if it helps.

How is your battery life? If you installed a rouge application; you might be able to spot it based off of battery usage.

Also when you reboot; don't just click the power button untilt he screen goes off; hold it in until the phone asks you if you want to shut down.

Have you tried a factory reset? It's not the most convenient answer, but usually works when facing unexplainable issues. I also came from HTC phones, so I would assume you'd be used to this by now.

Today, the main thing using my battery is the OS, Wifi, Display, Idle, Standby. Everything else is 3% or less (3 items).

Oh yeah, I know that. No worries. ;)

I haven't since the phone was brand new, but I could give it a whirl and see what happens once I reload all my apps and things. Maybe I can do it one app at a time and see what slows it down. Ahhh....I'm thinking now.

Actually, I never had to do a factory reset on my Dinc. The only times I did it was when I updated the OS and even then, I did it "just in case". I never had to reboot it either. I must have been lucky.

Before you factory reset, you should install System Panel from the Market (err, Google Play Store). Use that to check and see if something is running excessively in the background. Look at what apps are using CPU.

Too late, I already did a factory reset. But I'll look into the System Panel if it starts slowing down.

Interesting things regarding my reset. My wifi information remained and it connected. All my apps started to download after a few mins (not sure if it's because I had it on my card and it started reading the card, or what). So, I wasn't able to test things app by app (well, I can delete it off).

So far, it's running as fast as it was when it was new. ;) Let's hope this fixed at least that issue.

Sounds like you did not select for it to clear all the application data...there is a check box for that, otherwise it keeps those settings and data.

I did check the box to erase all internal memory. Weird. Oh, even weirder, after I turned it off, and went to turn it back on, it then asked me for a password. Strange things. Kinda worries me for when I return this for a Maxx (or something else).

After you sign back into your google account, it restores the wifi data and your apps from the cloud.

After a few hours, the phone was back to being very slow. I started killing processes one at a time to see which was the culprit. I figured it out, that's a good thing. It was Words w/Friends. However, I also see a lot of things running that I don't use and they keep coming back.

Unfortunately, even though killing Words helps with my screens popping up faster, it doesn't help with keyboard lag, which I still have. And it seems my BT connectivity for music is even worse. It will only play one song at a time.

Sigh. I'm enjoying the phone, but it may have to go. Typing and playing music via BT is major things for me.

I have never had lag you speak of. I think you got a bum phone. I play WWF all the time, too. Have you tried taking it to VZW?

I have discussed it with them on the phone, in the store, and with the Costco people too. All they say to me is, "I've never heard of it having that issue". One person did suggest removing all apps and email accounts. Keyboard still lagged but everything else seemed faster (but not as fast as the display model). He suggested I leave it like that. Nice workaround, wouldn't you say?

I guess I could push it and ask for another phone, but I'm honestly not sure what to do since I was going to upgrade to the MAXX (waiting for it to come in). Or if I should forget Moto and go with HTC so my music works with my car.

Sucks to have to deal with that. IDK if you've tried a corporate store, or that is where you have been going, but usually they are much better than after-sellers. If I could o it all over again, the only thing I would do is wait for the Maxx. I love the Razr, and it has been the best android I've owned to this point. I would keep complaining until they fix it for you. It doesn't seem fair to me to be caught like you are. It's way too good a device to be stuck with a lemon. Good Luck, and keep us posted...
