Issues with Atrix 4G start up?

I'm going to start by saying I'm not phone savvy hardly at all when it comes to technical issues, so please bare with me for I may not know exactly the correct way to explain this.
The problem began when my phone started rebooting a couple of times randomly, I wasn't using the phone besides texting a friend. My phone doesn't get used much besides phone calls a couple times a week, I barely text on it anymore, nor do I install a bunch of Apps. It has been dropped a few times, but showed no sign of damage internally or externally.
Then, when I tried turning the phone back on, all it shows is the red "Motorola" screen, & completely shuts off. Then, it got to the point where it would start up on it's own, shut off at the same screen, & repeat the process all over again. I've tried taking out the battery/SIM & putting it back in, but it continues to do it. I tried one method I read about, holding the power & both volume buttons at the same time, & if I understood correctly that puts it in some type of safety mode, but I would do that & it would say something like "battery too low to flash the LED"-- I think.
Now when I try to turn it on just by pressing the power button, it won't come on at all. Nor does it respond to the factory reset (power + volume down) command. The only time it turns on, is when it's connected to the charger, but then it does the same thing it did in the beginning, Motorola screen, then shuts off & restarts all over again.
I have very important text messages protected on my phone, that mean a great deal to me. I would like not to lose those, so if anyone has advice on how to save those even though my phone is in this condition, please let me know. I'd be very grateful. If not, that's fine. But hopefully someone can help me fix my phone soon, I use it for online schooling.
Thank you very much for help ahead of time! :)

PS, If it is important, my carrier is AT&T.
