Issues with finding a "compatable" free rooted wifi app.

I have recently upgraded from a CM7 modded HTC hero to a Motorola XPRT ( the cheapest option for me when I go abroad). Now that I have rooted it I find that the wifi tethering apps, like barnacle and opengarden are "not available on my carrier" I would switch back to CM7 and try to see if that would work, however I've read CM7 isn't compatible with the European system yet.

But can anyone explain to me why these are blocked and how I can unblock them?

Thanks!

Just taking a guess but it could be your carrier blocking access. In which case you may be out of luck. Have you tried calling you carrier regarding this?

Not sure what you mean by CM7 not being compatible with "the European system". There are a lot of people in Europe using CM7 on their phones.

I don't know where to find barnacle or any other tether app other than wifi tether, which can be found by doing a quick Google search. Maybe they're on the Amazon App Store. But if your carrier is blocking access to the app, the only option is to sideload the app from an alternative market or a webpage.
