Help Issues with prime....backlight or screen? RMA?

Hi all. Having issues with my TF201 prime.
Picked it up in early January, and has been running like a champ since. NEVER had any of the issues others have talked about. Wifi is great, screen is (was) perfect, no battery issues, etc....

Until now.

The problem I am having, is the screen keeps turning itself off. It is completely random. Sometimes it will be fine for an hour, then suddenly turn off. Others, it will go off repeatedly. What I mean is, when I am using it (surfing, email, gaming, doesn't matter what i'm using it for) the screen will just go off, and lock itself. Unlock, and screen goes off and it locks itself again.

Sometimes it will be 4 or 5 times, then it's fine. Other times, it will do it over and over until I give up, turn it off, and let it sit.

While this is happening, sometimes the power button is unresponsive, and it won't turn back on unless pressed 3 or 4 times. Other times, it will turn right back on without me touching anything.

I have disabled the screen timer. Was 5 minutes, now is set to never turn off. I have also disabled the lock. Same issues.

Performed a cold/hard reset by holding volume down and power button, no change.

Not sure what else I can do.

Also, sometimes it seems as the keyboard gets stuck. Random things will type when i'm not typing, similar to a regular pc keyboard having stuck keys.

Any ideas? I baby this thunk, and it doesn't even have a scratch. I really don't want to send it in.

OK, I think I've narrowed down the issue.
I think the power on button is broke. Seems like it keeps getting triggered, even when it's not being touched. Nwo that I have disabled the screen lock, it keeps asking me if I want to shut down, ok or cancel. The normal prompt if you hold the button in.

And the screen will randomly turn on and off if I sit there and watch it.

So I guess the tablet thinks i'm pushing the button, when i'm not. The question is, hardware or software?

The issue leads me to believe hardware, but honestly, I have never had an issue, and thinking back, it started around the same time as the last update a few weeks ago. But it's been getting worse, and just can't take it anymore.

Ideas?

Not 100% sure about your power button issue but i know i wouldn't be messing around with it myself. I'd just RMA it back and get them to sort it.

A friend accidently broke my Prime screen forcing into its snap case. Like you i really look after my gear and there wasn't a scratch on it . I knew this because I wiped down the back of the unit before posting it back to ASUS .

When it came back with a brand new screen I noticed new scrape marks on the back.

It looked like the guy using the tool to pry the back away from the screen had slipped and scrapped the tool over the back.

I rung and complained and they asked me to take photos and several days later informed me that they would replace it under warranty when a case was available. (Been waiting over a month now)

The bit that hurts the most is the screen cost me $412 to replace and the postage to them and back twice $66.

Upshot of this - take photos of your Prime before you send it if things like this bother you.
