issues with stock rom on gb27 modem

so ive been on the stock rom for a while after trying blu kuban. im tempted to try another rom tonight but am hoping i can fix the issue i have. since i restored m y stock rom with AGAT, the lights on the bottom do not work. also, over the last 2 days, 4g has pretty much stopped working. 3g works but at dismal speeds.

i checked my data, im nowhere near my 'full speed' cap. am at a loss as to why 4g just puked and is no longer working.

can i reinstall the OS through the samsung file i downloaded to update it to the latest android version and see if that solves it, or would going with a different rom be a better route?

oh, also, since reflashing the stock rom, the brightness slider doesnt work and its stuck on one setting.

What build do you have now (settings/about device)? With multiple problems I would say do a full one click restore install of the stock ROM (GC01 is the Boost JB) and then go from there and install the recovery kernel again. You could also choose GB27 if you prefer. Both are available from the repository.

well, im on cricket. the phone is a flashed boost phone.

so im thinking about installing blu kuban again, or possibly touched by a 4s.

is there anything i need to do before flashing? both are gb27-compatible it seems and i really want 4g back and the lights on the bottom of the phone to work again!

todays the day, got nothing planned but washing the car, cleaning up the lawn and reinstalling operating systems on the computers / phones in the house today.

so i flashed both touched by a 4s and blu kuban (currently still on blu kuban) and data still isnt working. should i reflash the GB27 modem im using?

i called cricket and had them reset my profile, that didnt help. 4g is still connecting but only the downstream arrow is coming on. when i use 3g, it works, albeit VERY slow.

You could retry flashing the modem. My question is when did your data speed problem happen, and had you changed anything just prior to that?

I do know I have solved issues with my data before by doing a SCRTN reset (makes the phone setup its connections again like it does when you first get the phone), but I am actually on Boost (Sprint). Cricket does use Sprint towers, but also have their own towers, so it is more like they have a roaming agreement.

nothing has been changed. my phone has been freezing up randomly when switching between wireless and 4g. its been the same for a good 2 months now with no hiccups.

the main app that it would cause a freeze on (when i first noticed it) is the twitch.tv app (watch live video game streams).

i had the guy who flashed it to cricket reflash it, i reflashed the modem, no dice on either end. im gonna do a restore to stock and see if that does anything. all my settings are the same, literally nothing has changed :\\

When he flashed it to Cricket was he using a donor phone, or was it just him flashing the carrier info to tell the phone who to talk to for service?

he used my old samsung vitality, which i still have and am considering switching back too (costs nothing if i stay on same plan)

Okay so Cricket thinks you have the vitality still? That is only a 3g phone, from what I am reading on specs for it. How would you even have 4g?

no, when he flashed my phone, he used the settings from the vitality and inputted them onto the gs2. cricket shows me has having a 'cpe' phone, no model number or anything.

Does cricket show you as having 4g? I mean when he flashed it, the account authorization for the 4g service had to be done.

the only account you have to sign up for that has 4g is the 4gLTE plans. the others have 4g by default. i dont show it as a feature on my plan details, but then again, the only plans that have 4g actually listed is the 4GLTE plans. even the iphone plans dont show 4g.

did cricket just change something? even the 4GLTE plans are 50/month.

The reason I ask is he is using the IMEI from the vitality then Crick will believe you have that phone. The IMEI the phone equivalent of a vehicle's VIN. Based on that number alone a mobile provider can determine what kind of phone that the IMEI belongs to. Using a donor phone is using its IMEI, and so your phone is pretending to be the other phone.

pretty sure its a different IMEI than the vitality. if it was the same, since the vitality doesnt have 4g, then if it was cloned, it shouldnt either.

idk

the factory reset to stock helped a little. my 3g speeds are now on par with what the 4g speeds were when it worked, so im happy, but still cant use 4g.

Well that is some improvement. WiMAX could even be tower upgrading issues.

It is easy enough to see what IMEI/MEID. Just look under the battery on the vitality (i recommend not turning that phone on) and then on the S2 go into settings/about device/status.

i have the original box from my vitality. the first 4 numbers of the IMEI are the same, but the rest are vastly different. the IMEI listed matches the one under the battery cover on my gs2

looks like cricket DID change something. all the smartphone plans read 'browse at 3g speeds up to 2,5gb data...' under the data portion. so it seems cricket removed 4g from every plan but the 4gLTE packages.

Well that bites. I don't have WiMAX in my area so Only 3g for me aswell, but at least it is fast 3g closing in on 2Mbps

kinda sucks i went through all that crap, but i would have had too anyways due to getting like 15kBps on 3g before... now i get like 120-200kBps which is adequate for the streaming i do

im just glad i got my speeds back to tolerable levels for streaming. 20kbps = SUCK.

gonna switch my plan later also, they upped the full speed bandwidth back to 2.5gb for the 50/smart plan (mine still says 1gb right now)
