it is me that Google wants

G'day, Vaguely thought about tablets in the past, but never have owned a smart phone, let alone something like the N7. But here I am eager to take delivery. It worked Google, I'm in.
So people can you reassure me and perhaps offer some guidance. I want this thing as a GPS mostly. I do a lot of motorcycle touring, and love the idea of planning a route on a decent size screen and using the tablet to guide me from a panel in my tank-bag. Off-line all day. This can happen, right?
In anticipation of having this thing about the place, it occurs to me it would be a great tool in my workplace, if it were possible to make it safe in a mechanical workshop. How sensitive is the screen to dirty hands? Is there a replaceable screen cover available? Does anyone else use these things in a workshop?
Thanks
Neil

Hello cag1va, welcome to AF! The Nexus 7 seems like a great product. To answer you questions, yes, you can download maps for the area you know you will be in, and navigation will work as long as you stay in the area you pre-downloaded.

As far as protecting it, cases and screen protectors abound already, so you should be able to protect it fairly well. I recently saw a video abusing one, and it held up way better than the iPad they were comparing it too. So with a little extra protection, I don't see why it wouldn't hold up in that type of environment.

In case you haven't already, stop by the Nexus 7 forum here: Nexus 7 - Android Forums. Lots of good info and knowledgeable folks in there :) Thanks for joining up!
