Help it lost it's MSL...

HI,

i was selling my old sprint hero to a person on craigslist.. at a sprint store so they can test the phone first.. it failed!!!!

story...
1.5 yrs ago.. i upgraded from my perfectly running rooted froyo ROMed hero to an EVO.
it was given to my little girl to use as a toy.. music and games ..etc..
with it in airplane mode..
would turn on wifi .. to get new software apps.

nothing has changed...and has been working great!

last night
i deleted some folders off the SDcard..
i fully charge the phone..
show the other party that the phone works fine...
have sprint hard reset the device..
it will not boot...stuck on "HTC" black screen.
tried reboot.. battery pull.. hard rest it a few times...
still same.. htc black screen.

I go into recovery.. and wipe a few things...
reboot...it boots!! android comes up..
but it will not find the sprint network...
they test it.. and tell me the MSL # is not being accepted by the phone!
the dialer will not let jump into low level settings...
they say it looks like it has been flashed to a different network...(false)


so... what is wrong???
and how can I fix this??

i should have just .. done my own thing.. and not let the sprint workers hard rest my device..

using recovery.. to wipe everything.. would have been good enough..
