Help It won't let me add a non-gmail account. Message (couldn't open connection to server)

I am trying to connect an email and I just cannot do it. I keep receiving
"couldn't open connection to server"

I am running the newest version of Jelly Bean and have no clue how to root or anything like that (and would frankly like to solve it without doing that). Please Please help.
 
I only asked because sometimes AOL and Yahoo cause issues. Have you made sure that there are no settings to block mobile access?
 
Just double checked again. It checks the incoming server settings for like 2 seconds and sends back that error message. The domain is a personal domain and I have tried running it both as an IMAP connection and a POP3, are there any ports or similar details that have cause problems like this historically?
