Its all Android so why the difference??

After I switched from Galaxy S to Nexus S, I was surprised to see how different the Android system is and missing so much! For example:

1- The quick toggle buttons for silent, screen lock, wifi, etc. that were on the pull down notification screen are now gone
2- No "merge contact" option in the contact list which enabled me to merge a contact with a facebook contact
3- Some widgets are not available anymore like Favourite buddies and task manager
4- The settings menu is black and white on the Nexus S but was nice and colored on the Galaxy (even though Galaxy is only 2.2)

Could it be that the Galaxy S was SIM free and my Nexus S is through Orange? If so how can I get this nicer interface? My Nexus S is unlocked btw. Thanks!

What do you mean by through Orange? Seems very strange that they are so different considering the Nexus S is a samsung build. Are you sure that these are not settings that you can turn on?

All four differences you mentioned are Samsung add ons, part of the so called Touchwiz experience. Nothing to do with Orange.

What you see on the Nexus S is the vanilla Android, honest to goodness, naked Android.

Yes, there are some cool things on the Touchwiz interface. Did you have the Froyo update on the Galaxy S. It comes with a Touchwiz update that adds a fifth button to the notification bar, plus a few other extras.

They're different UI's. Android is designed to allow the OEM's to modify it so they can create their own products based on Android.

HTC devices have Sense, Motorola devices have Blur, etc etc.
