Root It's been a while, and I need some help

Hi all.

Firstly, a little background - it's literally been years since I've tinkered with this side of my phone, so my knowledge has just gone. I am currently using:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1945441

(having just flashed it)

but I'm having a number of issues. They're all very nooby. For e.g., I can't seem to partition my sd card, I use this guide:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/SD_card_partitioning

But the phone appears to reject the sd card, telling me to reformat it and obviously not recognising it at all =/

I really have no idea what I'm doing wrong, and if you guys need any more info to help me out that would be great, I'm just needing to get up to speed!

Thanks

What you are doing wrong is using MiniTool - it is just not a reliable tool for ext format partitions. I know it's what that guide says, but we've seen so many problems like this that it became our standard advice long ago to just not use it.

Seriously, for best results you should use GParted. If you look in the All Things Root Guide sticky post in this forum there should be a guide to doing this. Read the Root Memory faq, linked in the same place, while you are there as that may help.

If you are using 4Ext recovery you could try partitioning the card with that. Other recoveries may well partition the card, but will more likely than not leave you with misaligned partitions, which reduces performance.

Thanks, I'm downloading GParted as we speak.
As for recovery, I'm using clockwork 2.0. something or other, if it's relevant I'll certainly get the actual version.

Major noob moment: So it comes as an .iso, I use daemon tools lite - but autoplay treats it a a load of pictures?

I'm afraid I know nothing about windows tools. I think you need to burn it as a disk image, though you could use it to create a virtual machine instead - there are a couple of threads on this linked in the ATR Guide sticky post.

Most likely your recovery is 2.5.0.7. It will partition a card, but likely to misalign, so GParted would be better. It's a solid recovery otherwise.

Open Daemon tools, when the little box opens, drag the iso to the window. Tadaa, mounted.

Under my computer you should see an extra drive, right click - run.

That's usually how it goes.

Hi, indeed that's how I usually use .isos

But with this, that doesn't happen. It just opens the .iso like I'm exploring it. Windows either asks me to import pictures, or I get to explore files *sigh* I know I'm doing something wrong, and in a very silly manner, bah.

Don't know what software you are running to burn discs with, but I use Nero. You just drag the ISO image into Nero, select burn and it's done.

Hey, thanks.

Anyway I have to admit it's rather frustrating, at every stage I get some form of error. I managed to get gparted onto a usb drive, but now when using the GUI and clicking on 'partition' (or so, I can't remember the exact name), it throws up another error which was the last straw for today.

Anyway, I'll try again tomorrow.
