This is my first smart-phone unless you can count an ancient BB Bold so be gentle :)

First impression is Moto took some advice from Apple about packaging. Really nice box, very high end packaging but not overboard.

Unit is larger than I remember in the store, but comfortable in my hands. Super solid build quality. As good or better than the iPhone 4S and not plastic feeling like the Sammy Galaxy, IMHO.

I charged it overnight, activated etc no problems.

One thing concerned me though, one or two times when I plugged in the charger plug, the "Boot Menu" appeared. This hasn't happened since the OTA update I got today.

Interface is easy to use but I'm totally confused as to how Google, contacts, back ups and so forth all interface with each other.
I'm looking for an easy to follow How-To on this.

Things I noticed and have questions about:

1. I'm on WiFi 90 percent or more of the time. However, how can I prevent or how do I know what applications might be running in the background that could try and access the web etc should I NOT be in a WiFi area and thus clobber my data plan?

2. Network strength seems not that great? I'm getting like one bar barely where I get good signal on my BBB. Also I notice the network drop and it goes to 3G (no 4G where I live) more often than I would expect, like in my house.

3. Camera is fussy. I have to be real careful or my pictures come out blurry.

4. I love the screen. Bright and clear and looks as good to me as my son's iPhone 4S.

5. Got an Otter Box Commuter and it fits perfectly.

Overall, I'm very happy aside from my concerns above.

Any ideas?

My signal is stellar and one of the best ever. if you have no 4G as I don't either you should change the settings to cdma only. From settings go to wireless & networks > mobile networks > network mode.
If you have 4G sometimes then you can use a 4G toggle available in the market. Searching for 4G wastes alot of battery and it will be searching all the time unless the setting is changed.
I have the commuter case also, nice, isn't it?
Re the cam, mine is similar, I just look at the pic before I pocket the phone and retake sometimes. A preview should briefly pop up. Enjoy your Maxx.:)

Thanks cbreze! I turned off LTE.. FWIW I get a fantastic 3G signal, it's my WiFi signal that wasn't so great. I just made some changes to my network and it seems to be better at this point.
