iTunes style remote to control one android device from another

Hi all,

We're trying to set up something quite special for a friend's stag do, and it requires us to be able to control an MP3 player on my Nexus tablet from my Galaxy phone over either Bluetooth or WiFi.

Does such a thing exist? I'm hoping for something like the iTunes remote, where you are playing music stored locally on the PC/Mac but you have full playlist control from the phone you're using as the remote. I've tried a few options so far but with limited success:
- Various streaming apps: streaming works ok, but as the two devices may move in and out of range of each other it isn't reliable. We want to be able to trigger the music to play on the Nexus but then potentially move away and have it continue playing.
- Tablet Remote: Allows control of the Nexus but without playlist etc., it's just a 'dumb' remote. We won't be able to see the screen on the Nexus so we'll be unable to pick specific songs.
- TeamView: Firstly we'd have to switch devices (ie. have the Nexus controlling the Samsung rather than the other way round), plus I think it seems to be controlling via the internet rather than directly through WiFi.

Does anyone know if there's a better option out there? Thanks a lot in advance!

Did you try the music apps which are recommended on the Tablet Remote? Perhaps one of these works tolerably well.

I can imagine a scenario where you remotely mount one device's SD card as a filesystem over WiFi, and then (on the phone) add song files to a directory which is actively being played by the tablet's music app. But this seems like a nasty kludge.
