I've tried the iPhone - it's awesome!

The Register article quoted by HustlinDaily pretty much covers the main reason I will never get an iPhone...

some really good and valid points mentioned

flash?? ok, i'm a newbie to android. i haven't seem flash used yet. i've used android 16 and 2.1. where is flash?

question: can i develop applications in flash for android?

i too will stick with android
but i'll admit, for me the only reason is price
love them or hate them, i think u have to admire apples ability to gets all those people to part with their hard earned monies for the iphone
my main justification will be: follow the mass - at this moment in time at least, apple is the number one by a long way - surely all these people cant be wrong drastically?

wow... i'm really sorry if i hit a nerve point for u
would u rather have people stop talking and discussing (and some like me asking what may seem to be a dumb question)?

awesome: someone ask's a few questions and gives their honest opinion and now they're a troll?

i'll be using this forum a lot more hopefully. i've only recently stumbled onto android phones recently. if i post in future - please don't ignore because u think i'm a troll :(

i would add to my defence: that others replying have also said that the apple os is much nicer

i got an apple laptop sometime ago. i just couldn't figure out why it had sooo many deficiencies. i used a few forums and asked questions. WOW! i was shot down real quick! they just couldn't take the criticisms! feels a little same here with some of the replies. :(

Unfortunately, this should NOT be the case. Everyone is welcome to these forums REGARDLESS of how much they know or how little they know, if they love android or think it sucks, or if they love the iphone, windows mobile or symbian.

As a part of the staff, please accept my apology for the way that some of the users here have acted.

To those who have acted appropriately and have helped the OP, thank you.

@0m2

So everyone should go get an iphone because thats what the masses do ,you every thought that some folks just don't find the iphone to be anything special.

The interface of the Apple: must have been dreamed up by a genious
But why isn't it copied on the Android??
Why should it be copied? I mean, why compete with a company already entrenched in a niche? The point of Android, for me anyway, is that it isn't the iPhone. If I wanted the iPhone I would get the iPhone.

where is flash?
It's in beta but you can find the download link if you dig around.

my main justification will be: follow the mass - at this moment in time at least, apple is the number one by a long way - surely all these people cant be wrong drastically?
There's no right or wrong. Selecting a smartphone is about finding what suits you best. If your needs/wants jive with the iPhone users, then by all means go for the iPhone. If not, go with whatever else works for you.

Personally, as much as I admire Apple's product and interface design, it's a non starter if they think they can tell me what I can and can't run on my device. Of course, YMMV.

hey, thanks for the vote of confidence :)
i wasn't really offended at all - i can see a lot of passionate people who love android!

instead of just listening to praises of android, i think it's healthy to listen to negative points as well - hopefully negative points made will make android better - even if the negatives points are not acted on, it's good to listen and dismiss with a conscience

While Flash has some bad points (every software does) the only - ONLY - reason why Apple doesn't allow Flash is money. It has NOTHING to do with poor performance, battery life, buggy things, etc. The real reason for not supporting Flash is because it would bring a new application ecosystem to the iProducts (games and music apps - such as Pandora - which could then run from a website instead via an app from the Appstore) - one where Apple wouldn't have any control and, more importantly, couldn't charge a dime. You could listen to songs and play games without paying Apple, simple as that.

While this is somewhat understandable for a company that practically lives off its Appstore (possibly the main source of income for Apple), the amount of lies they throw at people is what makes them a$$es.

This is 100% true. It's also why JAVA won't run on iOS. Kind of funny how he strays away from arguing against JAVA. It's not "buggy" with "poor performance" or "battery life" Steve jobs just doesn't like runtime enviroments that can take away from App Store sales.

Or maybe iOs just can't handle advanced programming like flash and JAVA.

So if the mass queue up to jump off a cliff, you will too? Good to know. Go, go, follow the crowd! :D

A lot of iPhone fans will say this and use this as their mantra but for the iPhone folks that use Mac OS - you try using that argument for Mac vs. Windows and they'll go ballistic and damn you for all eternity.

The iPhone UI is great - if you like that UI. That's just it - Android allows you flexibility with the UI that Apple does not. Jobs confirmed that. When was the last time there was a thread for "Show us your iPhone screens!"? Never - because they are all the same.

My friend called me on her Iphone today from the grocery store... We spoke a few seconds and then she had to go so she could access her list on her grocery app... She couldn't talk to me and look at it at the same time!!! I can do that on my android phone. I have the same apps.

I have the Mytouch slide and it works just as easy and nicely as her IPhone. Just FYI.

she actually can do that... she probably just doesn't know how lol...

this is with the older OS also.

i had a 3G before the nexus one and i'm not going back....

no i'm not.

If you're not, then apologies, but it seems to me that if you love the iPhone so much, then why come post about it on an Android forum, and most specifically the "Android lounge" when this forum is specifically made to discuss Android related topics? This topic has 0 to do with Android discussion imo, because you can discuss whats good and bad about Android without talking about the iPhone.

That being said, thats why I discounted your thread as nothing more than trolling, posting this here just to get a rise out of people and start and argument is all I could see.

Here's some iPhone screens:

and this last one is REALLY cool. Talk about an intuitive 4x4 grid row of icons! No one can line up icons in a 4x4 grid like Apple!

Wow! Breathtaking! Magical! Revolutionary!

some funny replies

The iPhone is definitely a good phone but forgive OM2 for making a premature comment in the android forums. He only has experience on the iPhone and really liked it. It's unfortunate he hasn't used a newer android phone before making a post but we can forgive him for that.

follow the mass ... surely all these people cant be wrong drastically?

Not to be confrontational, but ... that must surely be the most ridiculous reason for doing anything.

Companies, and indeed politicians, absolutely rely on the fact that the "majority" (a.k.a. the masses) are gullible and thus easily indoctrinated. Whereas politicians indoctrinate the electorate with political spin (half-truths) and propaganda (scaremongering), companies tend to even more more aggressively indoctrinate consumers by carpet-bombing them with advertising. Any psychologist will tell you the effect is similar to hypnosis. Apple has found a particular demographic that is most receptive to manipulation.

An earlier post referenced Adolph Hitler. Ignoring Godwin's Law for a moment, and the apparent inappropriateness of that response, there is in fact a highly relevant point to such a comparison.

The reason that, despite his obvious extremism, Hitler was elected, was because he was an exceptionally gifted motivational speaker (i.e. indoctrinator). Indeed, one branch of historical research dedicates itself to analysis of Hitler's mannerisms, inflections, timing and phrasing, in a scientific analysis of what makes effective indoctrination.

If you compare Steve Jobs' delivery to Hitler's, you'll find many remarkable similarities. Make no mistake that what you are watching is actually a carefully rehearsed act designed to engender a sympathetic response, and not just some CEO reading from a script.

Don't allow yourself to be controlled. Do something because you want to, not because others do it.

OM I personally think you should stick with the iphone.

Not knowing what widgets, multitasking, and flash are tells me you might not be the most tech savvy person. This is not a shot at you, just an observation. After saying that, this is the reason why the iphone will be good for you. Its simple, clean, and well polished. It wont overwhelm you with options, configurations, and customization.

In my opinion, phones aside, iOS is like Androids little brother. When you're ready to move up and really get the most out of your phone then get an android based device. I mean for gods sake, you cant even change your wallpaper.

Besides the multitasking, flash support and whatnot, the biggest reason I like Android is because I can make it mine. I doubt anyone out there has the same setup as mine. Dont like the launcher? Download a new one. Dont like the message system? Download a new one. Dont like the dialer? Download a new one. Dont like static wallpapers? Get a live one. I can go on and on.

the biggest reason I like Android is because I can make it mine.

I find it very hard to understand why consumers should expect otherwise, or even tolerate supplier's policy-based restrictions with the products they buy.

If I bought a spade, I wouldn't expect the manufacturer to try to dictate to me that I can only use it on a Wednesday. If I bought a car, I wouldn't expect the manufacturer to try to dictate to me that I can only fill it with Texaco fuel, or only drive it within a 10 mile radius of my house.

And yet this is exactly the sort of thing Apple, Microsoft and others dictate to their customers, who seem to just blindly accept these restrictions.

I don't.

That's why I use GNU/Linux exclusively on my servers and workstations, and Android exclusively on my phone.

When I buy something, I expect it to be mine.

This is funny because I used my Aunt's 3G (I'm assuming it's a 3G and not an S, I really don't know those phones) last night and my Eris was consistently faster and more polished looking side by side. Not to mention how much better my camera was than hers, I was honestly amazed. In the limited exposure I've had to Iphones, I've generally liked them because of the relative ease of use, but side by side comparision showed exactly how much they lacked. (I honestly couldn't believe my Eris was faster at anything much less everything, but it really was.)

but Apple users do know what widgets are...

thanks for the great piece of information.its too bad I never mentioned that apple users themselves didn't know what widgets are.i was talking about the TC. You proved my point though.iOS is simpler so it would suit him better
