Jailbreak Fire8

and for future reference, since the Kindle Fire is android based.......the terminology would be rooting vs jailbreaking which is a crapple thing.
There is more than a terminology difference. When you jailbeak an iPhone you are removing it from the entire Apple ecosystem, where rooting an Android simply gives you administrative access, or root access, to your own device.

Is there a strictly android OS than I can install on a Fire 6 Tablet? Is the 8 a 32 or 64 bit device?
The Android OS installations are very device specific, so you would need to find one specifically for the Fire 8. If you can attain root, you can probably do anything with the OS you may be able to do with a custom OS. I think the biggest things are install play, set a new default launcher, etc.

Sounds like the most reliable thing to do is to just root the native OS that's on the device. I would be able to install from google then?

Yep... ...if you look enough, you can probably install Play without root, but if you have root you also have a lot of other options.

You definitely can install Google Play (and some other needed Google specific .apk files without rooting, just search for 'install Google Play on Kindle Fire (The process is broadly the same for all Kindle Fire tables (The same 4 files are required in all cases, but the method of installing them differs for some of the older File tablets. I've installed Google play and other Google services on my Kindle Fire 10 (2017 and 2021 versions) and have Lawnchair as the launcher on the 2017 fire.
