I think I already know the answer (no) but its worth a shot. I just bought a G1 for my g/f for her birthday (I'll get mine in 11 days) and she's loving it. However, she loves playing games on pogo.com which uses java for games. Does the Android OS have a working java implimentation? From a quick search on here...it looks like a no but figured is worth a shot.
