JB disables tethering

These greedy fools finally got me. I have been tethering for over two years with no issues....now after the GB update it is trying to make me pay to use a feature I ALREADY PAID FOR.

Anyone else mad about this?

I'm filing a report with the BBB and the FCC. I suggest anyone else do the same.

If you paid for it...it'd be there.

Simple as that. Obviously it's not there which means you're not paying for it.

I just found a way to do free Bluetooth tethering between my Razr Maxx and my Nexus 7 Tablet. I put the app PdaNet Tablet (New) on the Nexus 7 and the app PdaNet+ on my Razr Maxx. Works pretty good.

According to a Verizon rep I spoke to the other day, the data I pay for on my phone is for use on my phone only. I know its stupid, but that's how that justify charging extra for tethering

For tiered plans.

Share Everything has hotspot included. So my 10GB of shared data is good for my phone and whatever I tether to.

Did JB disable usb tethering also? My work just gave me a Dell Latitude 10 tablet which only has wifi but it has a full size USB port. I was thinking of USB tethering it to my phone when I travel or don't have wifi access in order to surf the web. It has a full version of Win 8 on it which makes it easier to do things online than my Droid Razr.

I was disappointed when I realized my tethering app no longer works after this update. I am hoping in to find another way to tether without incurring $30 a month additional cost. Or is it possible to roll back to before this latest update? I'm sure this info is on this site. Will start searching. ;)

It's actually not possible. Once you update, that's it.

I believe you can root and install a custom OS or whatever though.

Did you guys see my earlier post in this thread? No root required.

Yes, you are no longer able to tether via USB either.

I will try this tonight. You have to install the app on your laptop?

I'm not certain how or which apps you use with laptops but if I recall correctly, one of the app descriptions said that you can tether with tablets and laptop computers. I put the PdaNet Tablet (New) app on my Nexus 7 tablet and the PdaNet+ app on my Razr Maxx. Also, I only tried it with Bluetooth tethering but it seemed to work quite well. I don't believe it will work as a wifi hotspot anymore with most phones since the JB update, including the Razr/Razr Maxx. I think it works using USB tethering as well but I haven't tried that yet.

Well it worked great except my laptop doesn't have blue tooth hardware. =( Installed the software. Doh! Guess I'll try Rooting today. Wish me luck!

I'm rooted and PDANet works quite fine with my Win 8 laptop with a USB cable.

I actually prefer using a cable in any case. It's not like my phone's far enough away to make using a cable impractical, and it lets me charge my phone a bit during my lunch break.
