JB Update Issues

Hi All,
I am Ravi, new guy in this forum & I am from Singapore, I desperately need help. JB update was indeed fine and now battery is lasting longer (it turns off data when the screen goes to sleep, what's the use) but overall I would say phone is pretty good now except that the phone wont mount as a USB disk anymore & I have been trying to break my head since a month. I got a HTC One X and trying to transfer files from/to my mac.

JB update has removed the option where it says ("disk drive, charge only, etc) when the phone is connected to a computer. I have a mac (OS X 10.X) & when I connect, it opens up as a CD drive and shows to install HTC Sync manager, prior to the JB update, I used to get it as a usb drive and I'd used to copy files from/to the phone easily. I was forced to install the sync manager (never liked it nor wanted it on my mac) and I can sync music but it never mounts as a USB disk. So
1. erased & formatted my phone storage thinking my internal storage might have gone crazy after the update. - in-vain
2. factory reset the phone to try if that works. in-vain to get the same old thing back.
3. I have a PC as well install with HTC sync mgr, so I connected HTC One X to the PC, it shows up as a portable media player & can view the contents of the internal storage BUT CANNOT COPY to/from.
4. I had webroot antivirus software installed, thought it might create issues, so uninstalled that one.
5. I had ad blocker plus installed, although it wont interfere in this but uninstalled.

I badly need to connect my mac to the phone and copy over some doc's and ofcourse music/videos(without htc sync mgr) & I DO NOT want to install any other applications and rely on it for transferring files/music/videos/pictures to & from the phone. The main reason I DO NOT WANT TO
1. install htc sync mgr is, i personally feel that it is not coded well and it acts very weird at times.
2. install any other applications to transfer files is because, it installs either a FTP or a SFTP service or opens up ports on my phone which is a vulnerability and drinking juice from the phone. (I am a systems admin & a security freak as well) :-)

the main reason I switched over from iPhone to Android is due to the capability of transferring things back and forth easily which totally defeats my purpose.

Can someone please help?

I didn't try it yet, but since JB there is at Settings, Storage (... on the bottom) the menu USB storage.

Harry

With JB there isn't 'PC connection' in Settings any more.

But when I connected to the PC, then a USB icon appeared at the phone's notification bar, then my PC needed several minutes to download the drivers and then my One X was one of the PC's disc drives :)

Harry

Harry, The USB Storage option is disabled.

Why has USB storage been disabled? Can you enable it again (without rooting) ?

How to enable it? If I can get to enable that, I guess it would mount my internal storage.

In sense 4+, USB storage has not been disabled. The reason you don't have any options anymore is because it should be mounting as a USB drive all the time you plug it in. They changed it from being an option when you plug in (in sense 4, 4.1, etc.) to being a USB drive all the time in sense 4+.

@ G20, i dont see it as USB when I connect to my mac or even my pc. That is actual problem. Do you know what should I do to mount it as USB? You can see the original question.

Yes I saw the original question, I was just fix the errors in what people were saying. Do you know if you have the drivers installed to detect the phone? Are yo using windows or OSX primarily? Do you have HTC Sync Manager installed?

Yes, I had installed HTC sync mgr installed on my mac, its then also, I dont see it as a disk on my mac. I believe if i install sync mgr, it would install the necessary drivers. my personal computer is a mac and yes i use it primarily. my office computer is windows. When I connected my one x to my windows laptop it shows up as portable media player.

Has your PC/Mac internet access while you have connected the phone?

As I said, my PC has downloaded (USB) driver (from internet) for several minutes.

Harry

Well ... this might be the new USB host feature (USB OTG) of JB at the One X.

Somebody tried it with USB OTG cable on an USB disk?

Harry

Yes, it's USB host mode for the One X :) :) :)

I tried an USB storage stick with an USB OTG cable on the phone's microUSB socket.
With my file manager (EStrongs File Explorer) I was connected to the USB storage stick and was able to read its content.

This menu 'USB storage' at Settings, Storage ..., is for to dismount a connected USB storage .

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate on my PC and just updated phone to 4.1 JB

mine now is seen as a camera/portable media device and a CD Drive as HTC Sync Manager

and I hate it.

every different pc i connect my phone too it has to install drivers and prompts to install htc sync manager. on my works pc with WinXP it doesnt prompt it just starts installing. So annoying, I want to be able to switch between charge and disk drive again :(

and it enables USB debugging everytime i connect to a pc

Got it just now, UK unbranded... all is we'll. But it doesn't seem any smoother, is that cost the one x was so good before.... as I've put in another thread, my capacitive buttons don't give any haptic feedback anymore :-(

You can disable usb debugging in developer options

Just tried my phone on my pc & i can access my phones files no problem, i find it better in some ways as it does it automatically rather than have to select disc option.
I think half the problem is we get used to things one way & don't like it to change.

Have got JB at last too, unbranded One X, but i had seen video and read about updates to the camera and the unlock screen and these seem to have been omitted, is this right? anyone else noticed this or am i doing something wrong?

Hi guys, I've been reading this forum for a while now so now that I have an issue I hope u can help me out :)
I've updated to JB and one thing is really annoying me. I cant seem to find how to turn vibration for notifications off. On ICS it was under Sound settings and if u turn off vibration for calls, u turn it off for notifications as well. Looked everywhere in settings and found nothing. If its a "new feature" of JB then I really hate it! :)

Welcome to the forums, Genesis! Hope you enjoy your time here :)

I don't have JB yet so I can't say with all certainty, but I believe there is an option to disable vibration in the new power saver settings. Although I doubt this is the only way to disable vibration, since I don't have the JB update yet, that's the only way I am aware of to stop vibration, since you say the ond option is gone. Maybe take a look into that while we wait for someone with the JB update to give us more information?
