JB Voice Recognition

I realize that Google has a fairly decent voice recognition system, and I use it a lot for taking notes related to my job. With the phone I have atm (an Esteem), 4G is required, and that eats up a LOT of battery.

Before I make the switch to the SGSIII, I'd like to ask those who have the phone with JB - I understand it has a stand-alone voice recognition system built-in... that doesn't require an internet connection.

My question is - How does it's accuracy compare with the online voice recognition system from Google?

I haven't had the opportunity to try out other systems (like Dragon Go!) and was wondering what you guys thought about the topic.

Wow.
40 views, and not one reply. I had no idea the SGSIII forum would be so... helpful.

Thanks guys. You've definitely helped me make up my mind about switching to the SGSIII.

40 views without replies means there are 40 other people who are interested in this subject. Not that they have an answer and refuse to post it. I'm interested in this also, but I don't have JB yet. I do find it interesting that your decision on buying a phone is based on how quickly you get a response to a question on this forum. I wish you luck finding a phone that works for you.

What? lol
No response after 40 views, to me at least, says that 40 people here probably didn't know the answer either.

Either way, it's a moot point now - I've made up my mind and I'm going with the Note 2 instead of the S3... based on what I've found since making the OP, I won't have the VR issue with the Note.

I find it strange that it took you reading sarcasm into my post to want to come here and 'help' by wishing me 'good luck' in finding a phone.

Hopefully your post was meant to be tongue-in-cheek rather than sarcastic.

You've asked for the results of comparing offline and online versions of Google's voice recognition, but I can't imagine many people will have done this. Maybe you should ask people whether the offline version is good enough for S3 owners to make day-to-day use of it. Personally, I've yet to find any voice recognition system which is good enough to use regularly and there are, of course, issues regarding the environment in which it can be used. Background noise springs to mind, but also would you really want to dictate your emails whilst sitting on a train, for example? For now, at least, I think voice recognition is still a niche feature.

Here's a link to a post I started a few days ago which might, or might not, amuse you:

And here is a link to an article where the author describes his experience of trying to live with his Android phone for a week without using the keyboard:

Thank you.

Yes, it was tongue-in-cheek... and apparently it worked in getting a response. lol But as I said, sometimes silence speaks loudly as well.
No replies told me that no one here knew the answer to my question either, and that helped me decide which model to choose.

Your post, however, is very helpful and is appreciated immensely.

I've viewed a view videos on Youtube about The S voice, they asked a question like "How many days until christmas" & "How much woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck coukd" & The S voice gave them answers. When I asked mine, she said "Sorry I don't have those answers, would you like to search the web" Why didn't mine give me answers? Is there something I need to adjust in settings???

I haven't switched phones yet, so I don't know - yet.
I wish I could help you... if you get help on that, or figure it out on your own, stop by and let us know what worked for you.
I'll do the same. ;)

Thanks!

I'm interested as well. Unfortunately, my carrier here in the United States, Verizon, has not released jelly bean. I use voice recognition constantly. in fact, this message has been written exclusively with voice recognition.

I don't like Samsung S voice. I'm using a widget that accesses googles native voice recognition service. For me, it will be interesting to find out weather the jelly bean version functions as well. Good luck!

This is my take on it, Google Now will only activate by voice on the S3 and my nexus 7 if it is set to US English (I guess it got poor grades at school). For searching and information it tends to be spot on. S Voice got improved during the JB update and tends to work well at voice dialing and texting. It as a drive feature which is turned on when connected to blue tooth. It will then read text messages to you, inform you of new emails, and can be used to carry out phone functions.

Thank you. But how does JB's offline word recognition accuracy compare with the standard online voice recognition system from Google?
(Above, John_g posted a link that illustrates what I mean)
