JB wake locks

As we've all discovered, battery life on JB is adequate rather than impressive. There's lots of new features and new processes draining the battery.

We all use different apps, settings and widgets etc, and so as ironass has said numerous times, what works to improve battery for one person won't work for the next. It's a long process of elimination, and systematically using better battery stats is essential in this process.

Having said all that, I thought it may be helpful to share new wake locks we are experiencing with JB, in the hope it may help others in their quest for improved battery.

My starter for 10: AudioOut2had been my top wake lock. This seems to be related to that lovely trickling water sound during screen on/off, and turning that off in settings had got rid.

I think it would be helpful to post new wake locks here withsolutions if possible so we can learn from each other.

Hey syd, I think this will be a very useful thread. :) The top kernel wakelock for me is the PowerNanagerService, followed by l2_hsic. any insights about how to eliminate these two??

One wakelock that caused me problems on JB and which I had not come across before, was..

StartingAlertService

This was giving me a wakelock of about 30-40 minutes throughout the day and was impacting severely on my battery life.

I tracked it down using BetterBatteryStats and, after much Googling, I came across the details and the solution, which is quite easy, here.

I find this xda thread very helpful when dealing with wakelocks as it not only explains the main ones but also the steps to take to prevent the ones that might be affecting you...

How to prevent & handle wakelocks & save battery life

Of course i do, ironass.

Are you getting this?...

Yes Indeed, Ironass. But in my case PowerManagerService is the primary culprit and multipdp is the second...

Just long press the, "?", in the orange circle and it takes you to the, BetterBatteryStats-Knowledge-Base", that gives you a breakdown of the wakelock.

For those without the, "?", symbol, it is a case of Googling the wakelock.

Ironass, you have never formally welcomed me to the Android Forums (like you do to all new members) :( Better late than never mate ;)

Off topic but I will answer it.

I always welcome every poster, on behalf of Android Forums, that I reply to on their very first, #1, post as a common courtesy.

However, your first post, #1, was here, in the Android Community, Introductions, forum, where you were greeted by the Guide, Digital Controller.

Welcome parag1dubey, glad to see you are already using the site to benefit yourself :)

I can't go around, frittering away my extremely limited pool of kindness, courtesy and general bonhomie on every post, willy-nilly. Whatever next, tea, cakes and scones with every reply! ;)

I'll let you off with the scone, but where's my Earl Grey and Battenburg? I've been on here for almost 18 months.
Very slap dash. Must try harder. Tut tut. I'm telling Slug on you.

A pair of complimentary welcome reading glasses would perhaps be better for you I feel.
No hawker, actually an aspirin and some lemon soda would be a better complimentary gift....looks like I emptied more than one six pack of beer last night :) :D
