The 2GB of RAM is not needed for JB
 
My Motorola Droid X got quite a few updates, including a surprise one just a few months ago. Started on Eclair, then got Froyo and Gingerbread, think it got at least 5 OTA updates over 2 years.

Luckily you didn't have Moto's red headed step child in theX2. They just plain out screwed us over. Supposed to ship with GB, it doesn't. Then less than a year after release we are told no ICS, only crappy "bug fixes" are in your future. What happened to the eighteen month upgrade promise Moto? That was my last Moto phone. Never again will I deal with their bs. Samsung free the world.

That would be incredibly bone-headed on Samsung's part. Probably they will integrate it with their S-Voice. Or at least I hope they will. Like somebody said this is just more than a theme and with Touchwiz being one of the more heavily reworked OEM versions of Android, it's gonna take awhile. Ideally, they should have it ready and shipped with Jelly Bean around Sept/Oct to combat the iPhone 5 and other high-end JB handsets.

Google blows for releasing updates. For the average consumer with android phones, they should treat the OS like the processor- it's static and fixed and not gonna change. And if one day you find that your dual-core is now a quad-core processor, you should be as excited and surprised as if you get a notification saying you have a major OS update. Which is totally the wrong way to do things for the consumer. But great for android phone sales.

This works if you use unprotected swipe to open. But if you add security such as a pattern, PIN or password it doesn't - you have to enter security swipe etc.

Shame it doesn't work like the iPhone where you can still get quick access to camera even if PIN protected. When you quit camera iPhone takes you back to lock screen!
 
I think Google timed this in part to stunt the thunder of the SG3. Now that Google owns Motorola, they do not want an OEM getting too big for their pants. Looks at all the talk now, "Eeeew, the SG3 has the ancient ICS, eeeeeewww!".

Nope, Google be playin' chess here and just popped their knight out on Samsung. The supply issues of making 28nm chips and now Jelly Bean and the Nexus 7 (and it's evil intentions lack of micro sd) are all part of a big game of strategy.

Apple applauds Google, since this only helps Apple. Sure, Google is also looking at iOS 6 coming out, but the media already had a standard of ICS they were comparing in a favorable light.

Added: Now that I see the trend of Nexus devices not having SD cards and low storage space (for obvious reasons), I think Google's Nexus products are balls.

BTW, ICS on the Razr ROCKS, so expect even better on the SG3. I do not like jelly beans as candy and can wait on the OS.
 
I do not care about JB in the least. I just got the best phone on the market IMO, the S3, and its fine the way it is.
 
Well, we're certainly not going to get it before it comes out. :p But seriously, with the large number of carriers each inflicting their own particular form of misery on us, the only real answer is <shakes Magic 8 Ball>Reply hazy, try again.

Unless, of course, you're open to custom ROMs, then the answer is most certainly yes.

No.

Google benefits from every Android handset sale that has Google apps, which the S3 happens to be one of. Why would they try to stunt sales? :p

Other than the fact that Google io usually runs in May there's nothing out of the ordinary.
 
Hey everyone!

I'm new to Android, actually I'm not even new yet... I'm still using my iPhone.
But, my next handset will be the Galaxy S3.

Anyway, I've tried looking around and couldn't find an answer.
I understood that the GS3 will receive the new Jelly Bean update, and one of the major features for me, is the google now voice search.

Will the GS3 still use the S-Voice? What will be the main search voice?
Is it possible that Samsung will not implement the google now feature at all?

As I said I'm new to the Android universe, so I don't really know if this is something anyone knows yet.

The rumors are Samsung will drop S-Voice for the new majel voice search. Even if they don't, there are non root ways to substitute voice search in place of s-voice.

I am too waiting for googles new voice search. From the demo's, clearly revolutionary and makes Siri look like a useless child's plaything by comparison.

Yeah, it will work the same way it works on the Nexus. That's a Google features and they won't modify anything. The question is whether they will favour S Voice or not. I guess they won't, Google made something way better.
 
i have already deleted s voice is just as bad as siri

this is the future google now>stephen hawking>s voice >siri
 
The bigger issue in all this when will Samsung push out an update. If you're buying this phone with the expectation of Jelly Bean and will not root to get it, you'll be waiting a little while.

Amen. I'll be happy if/when Jelly Bean makes its way to the S3, but if it never does, I'm okay with that, too.

These types of threads are where Android gets this unjust tarnished image in regards to updates. If JB were never mentioned, people would still be gushing over ICS and truly enjoying their fine piece of hardware. Mention that Google is working on a new OS, though? All of a sudden everyone lots of people start bitching and moaning about their carrier, how long you have to wait for updates, whether or not their phone will be supported, blah blah blah.

It is almost as though they'd be better off not working on that sort of development. Every time they show signs of progressing, people get all sorts of pissed that they aren't on the leading edge any longer. Guess what? That's how technology works.

Give me a device that works really well day 1 and maintain it so that it continues to function as well on the 700th day as it does on the 1st day. If the powers that be see fit to add some increased functionality and new features? Icing on the cake.
