Help Jelly Bean background Colours

I have an S3 which is loaded with Jelly Bean 4.1.1.

When I open my email (exchange), the email list is on a black background with white writing for new emails and greyed out for read emails. Unfortunately, I live in a country which has a 'Sun', this means that the black background makes everything unreadable - as any web developer knows - black is a no no for any screen. Is there any way to have a white background with black writing? (please do not suggest using 'inverted screen colours' as this makes everything else on the handset unusable.

Interestingly, Gmail has a white background and black writing - so why does Exchange (using the stock application) behave differently ?

Appreciate your help before I jump to another OS which I can use

Would you really jump to another OS? I don't know if there is an option for this. I live in a country that has no sun so its perfect for me, plus it saves energy.

I looked for a setting but can't see one unfortunately. It would be worth checking out an app called Google play. Its a market place for android apps. In there are many alternative applications to pretty much everything you have on your phone. I bet even a black on white email client.

Google play comes pre installed. Just go into the app drawer and look for a shopping bag with a play icon.

I live in a country with 330 days of sun per year and am just fine with the black colours.
