Help Jelly Bean lock screen dial pad numbers are blocks

So I just updated my phone to jelly bean a week ago. And my lock screen dial pad has blocks for the numbers and letters. Also some notifications act the same way. I've shut off the phone that didn't help. I've pulled the battery, but that helps for like 48hrs, but then it comes back. Anybody have any suggestions

Samsung Galaxy S4 eh?
Try to boot into recovery, clear the cache, reboot.
Recovery mode...power off device fully. Hold down home, then volume up, then power. All 3 held down at this time. Phone will vibrate and screen will come on. Let go of all 3 buttons. You are now in recovery.
Updates sometimes do wonky things

How do i know if I'm in recovery mode? It looks pretty normal so far. But i followed your suggestion. So far so good. Let's see if it lasts longer than a couple of days. I'll keep you posted. Thanks!
