Jelly Bean Tips and Tricks

:D Well, I've been looking for a way to create folders. Touching and holding down the home screen is no help, and there's no convenient menu button with an option to do so.

I finally figured it out. Group all the apps you want to put in a folder together. When you want to create a folder, quickly swipe one app over the other. If you do this slowly, the app you hold will merely displace the app you're going to. So do it quickly. A circle appears with tiny icons of both apps. To add more apps, flick apps to the folder. To name the folder, tap it, and tap where it says unnamed folder. This will allow you to type the name you want on this new folder.

Hope you find this useful.

I created a folder by accident and couldn't figure out how to un-create it :-).

I thought I read that icons were supposed to shift around to make room when you re-positioned them, so I tried it, and wound up with a folder instead of having the existing icon move.

Just long click the icon you want to remove from the folder and move it out or move to the "remove" area up on top, just as you would do any of the icons on the home pages, etc...

You don't need to unlock your device to respond to notifications (assuming it isn't pin locked). Just swipe down the notification bar and tap the email (for example) and it will bring you right into the Gmail app.

Thank you for the video, but for me it was no good because it was done way too fast to teach this newbie about notifications. Perhaps you could try again more slowly?

The video is free, just watch it again and again until you get it :)

At first I didn't like the Chrome browser on my Nexus because it defaults to showing the entire site in small print. Double

Uninstall apps just by long pressing them in the apps tray and dragging them to the top of the screen.

Yes!!! Found that myself on first test drive before buying... that easy delete app feature is long overdue... settings: manage apps, was so much more cumbersome...

I believe it was in ICS too, unless it was only on custom ROMs, but I've had that for a long time now.

I kind of envisioned this thread encompassing both ICS and JB as many of the folks getting the N7 are coming from ginger bread.:)

Ya that's true, I guess I can barely even remember Gingerbread since I've always been rooted so I've had the newest as soon as its leaked...

Another one I found is if you need to reboot to safe mode, hold the power button until the power off option is on screen. Touch and hold power off to see the option come up over top of the list with an explanation of what safe mode is

This is not so much Jellybean Trick and more to do with the Nexus..

For those who don't want to root or use a launcher, you can get the home screen to rotate to landscape using Ultimate Rotation Control. Sadly it will also rotate every app you have but you can fix that in the apps settings :D

Hi, could you tell me what the setting is to rotate the home screen, I can't seem to figure it out?
Cheers
