Help Jelly Bean voice search

I was out earlier on mobile internet, 3G because the UK hasn't got 4G yet. I was unable to use the voice search on my phone; the error was that it couldn't contact the Google servers. I know its not a Google side problem because once I got home I tried connecting to WiFi and then trying again. It worked this time, and then I tried mobile internet only, same result.

Does voice search not work over mobile internet? I'm on T-mobile if that helps.

Just confirm, I have enabled internet and the search does work if I type it in manually. The information cards up as well for weather etc.

Voice search works fine for me using mobile data (T-Mobile in the US). The only thing I can think of is if you have the offline speech recognition installed for the language you are using (I'm guessing you have it set to English UK)? It is in Settings>Language & Input>Voice Search>Download offline speech recognition.

The only thing that seems odd to me is that it doesn't seem like you should need the offline speech recognition when on mobile data.

Ahh yes I have offline voice recognition installed for my language English UK. I never thought that this could be the cause, Google should've the online voice recognition enabled when there is a connection automatically (Mobile or WiFi) and only resort to the offline package as the final option when there isn't any data connections. Makes sense to have it configured this way.

Thanks for your help :D

Sorry to report that this didn't work. My phone is still unable to do voice recognition. From further investigation I found that its not only the voice search that it can't do but voice typing in messenger and 'Search destination' in navigation too. Same error: Cannot reach Google servers =/

Discussing this on the nexus 7 forum.
I found that offline dictation works when using the stock keyboard. Does not work when using swiftkey 3.

I have not been able to get offline voice recognition at all. Tried downloading other types of language as well to see if it made any difference but it never even gets to it. Always says cannot reach google server.

Ah I'm using this phone with all stock settings etc, the keyboard is stock. I'm wondering if its because T-mobile are blocking the response from the Google servers to the voice recognition? Because I see that data is being uploaded and it even counts it in the data usage part as well.

hi,had the same problem with jelly bean on my nexus, the answer for me was to change all language selections to english(us),which seems wrong as we are in UK! it seems that the clever Google Now gets a bit confused, all perfect now,and voice search works off line, mind you the search works but now wont be able to do much with no data! good luck Vincent. PS just love my nexus,if you havnt discovered it..try resetting some of the developer options in menu..especially the animations..can make a huge difference to the buttery feel!

I've just tried doing that, no luck at all. I pretty sure its something on the network side now, voice recognition data is being sent but nothing is being received so I'm sure the network is filtering because I still have the Under 18's restriction thing

Also I've heard about that but I think its buttery enough :P
