Not really. Installing apps can be done via the web browser. Tell the apps to install and there ya go.
I don't know why people complain about resetting. It helps.
It's not the installing of the apps, that happens automatically. It's getting the widgets set up the way I want, getting the settings back the way they were, and reconfiguring apps. I'm a Realtor, and I use an app to open lockboxes. A restart will require me to sit on hold so I can get a new access code before I'd be able to show properties. Its the little stuff that adds up and is time consuming. If I had a weekend or even a day off it wouldn't be a problem.
On the other hand it might be exactly what you need to be thinking about.
In the absence of the Factory Data Reset you apparently have a phone that allows people to enter property owned by someone else and you apparently have no backup.
What happens if that phone is lost or worse yet stolen?
I don't have anything on my unencrypted phone that I would not want in the hands of my worst enemy.
As was pointed out ... thinking about it and making course corrections is a very healthy thing.

The app requires a password that is only in my head. People's homes are safe.
I know I will be doing a reset. It was asked why some people complain about having to do a reset. I was answering that with my personal reasons.
Great. Since it is critical to your work you might want to consider a "backup phone" that would guarantee that you would not be impacted by any non availability of the current phone. That would also allow you to do maintenance without a negative impact to your work.

The guy has legitimate concerns. I think spending big money on a backup phone is a ridiculous solution. I agree that an FDR is good to do, but should absolutely not be necessary for proper operation after an update is pushed.
Sorry ... he said it was critical to his work ... my recommendation was not the solution to his Factory Data Reset timing but rather to it being critical.
Perhaps since it is critical to his work not having a backup when it is lost or stolen might be a pretty big concern.

I never said it was critical. I said it was a pain to reconfigure after a factory reset and that i don't have a lot of spare time to spend getting my phone reconfigured the way i like it.

Where does the idea of doing a fdr after a update come from? I have had multiple smartphones over the past few years, all have had major updates without any problems. I have never done a fdr, I would think if one needed to be done every time there is a update, the manufacturer would recommend it in instructions for the update, Or would have some way of saving all the apps and settings so it would not be a pita to do.

Not with 4G enabled. The only way to get a good life from it is disabling the data connection since that 4G sucks the life from your phone.
Yes. With 4G enabled. I never turn it off.

My average battery life is 19hrs 42 mins with heavy use 3-6 hours of screen time and 4g always enabled

It's a form of voodoo. If cutting off the head of a chicken and whispering an incantation once cured someone's mother-in-law of malaria, why not cut off the head of a chicken and whisper the same incantation once a month--just in case?
My phone works about the same after the update, battery life with everything on is excellent, Im just not having any problems. I'm a light user and re loading everything back into the phone would not be an overwhelming task for me, that said I don't see any point to do a FDR. If I was convinced to do so, I would do it

My Moto Droid 4 just done the Jellybean system update. Really only thing I miss is the factory clock/weather widget, although I was able to find a decent replacement widget from the app store. One great improvement I've noticed thus far, is the upgraded music player. The shuffle feature and user friendliness is much better and also runs ALOT smoother than the old one. I also like the fact there's a "blanket" or "master" location on/off switch now.
Oh and the pic/vid library now sucks....but it's tolerable. I don't like the absence of an All Photos or All Vids album option, instead it's broken up into multiple albums. Overall, phone seems to run much more smoothly than it did prior with Icecream Sandwich.

Another "issue" I noticed as of yesterday is that ringtones / notifications are constantly being set back to default. I have read many threads and I know the reason, at least what everyone is saying, is because you have to have ringtones / notifications saved to internal sd instead of external.
While I do understand that this could be the cause, I just wanted to point out I never had this issue with ICS. I have always always kept my ringtones / notifications on external sd card and it never "lost" that setting like it does now. Other threads have stated that this only happens when you plug the phone in the pc using a USB cable and some people have found a workaround by changing the mode from Mass Storage to Media Device (MTP). I do not even connect my phone to the pc and it's still losing the setting after a day or so. So not sure how accurate that workaround is.
I know a lot of folks thought as long as you had the proper file format setup, SD Card - Media - Audio - Ringtones it would be fine even having them on the external card but that doesn't appear to be the case with JB.
And yes I did FDR and wiped cache after installing JB.
