Jellybean and S3

I heard from a tech friend of mine that there was some trouble with getting 4.1 to work on the S3 and that's why we don't have it yet. Is this true? Does this have anything to do with theawsuit between Apple and Samsung? Is this why there is am S4 coming out already? Can I demand a new phone if they can't get Jellybean to wirk. Argh!

Jelly bean runs awesome on the S3,I'm running it right now and it's smooth as butter. No you can demand a new phone and Samsung has already said the rumors on the S4 weren't true.

This.... plenty of us have Jelly Bean ROMs on our S3's and they run flawlessly. The lawsuit has nothing to do with the S3 or Jelly Bean, S4 rumors were shot down by Samsung and you wouldn't be entitled to a new phone as software updates are not guaranteed. I would look at CM10 or another Jelly Bean custom ROM instead of waiting for the official release.
 
I'm running a CM10 nightly build (9/15) of Jelly Bean on my S3 and absolutely love it. Battery life is great, it's SO much faster than stock Samsung ICS, and I'm having fun with Google Now.

If a future CM10 build could only fix the phone call volume at the lowest still being ear-splitting, it'd be pretty spot-on perfect. If you don't take a lot of calls, it's a great daily driver.
 
Running JB on international version. Runs as smooth as butter (pun intended very much so).

the only down side is i can't get google voice to talk back. from what i've heard, you have to be in the USA for it to talk back =/

if its like my Nexus 7 it will only work when you set the language to US English

Holy crap, is this a serious post? What qualifications does your 'tech friend' have? We all have 'tech friends,' that doesn't mean squat.

The S4 is coming out already? It's not even scheduled to be unveiled until February.

Why would/could you demand a new phone if you don't get Jellybean? Were you guaranteed to get it at a certain time when you purchased the phone? Proof?

I don't feel like feeding a troll, but some posts are just so far out in left field it makes my eye twitch.
 
A question for those with jellybean. Are you running 3rd party launchers and still seeing the new effects? Does it lag at all?

*shrug* There's no need to talk down to me. I was a little apprehensive is all. Long day, flu. Anyway. I was unaware that updates aren't gauranteed. Us commonfolk aren't as versed in cell phones, so chill out. I come here to get my questions answered. Stupid or not.

Is there an estimated time as to when it will be released for the S3? I am too worried about messing something up. That's why I don't root.

A friend of a friend told me that his second cousin upgraded to Jellybean and the S3 immediately burst into flames. It is important to load a fire extinguisher app before upgrading.

Samsung has already said that Jelly Bean will be released for the Galaxy S3 "sometime in October". A Google search for "Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean Release Date" would have gotten you this answer faster than starting this thread.

It really just varies by carrier.

Each version of the SGS3 has different radios and such to accommodate each carrier. It all has to be tested before release.

Typically, it's impossible for the high-end phones to not get the major update, at least one, in its lifetime.

And the SGS4 is coming out for the same reason that the SGS2 and SGS3 did - Samsung basically updates the top end model once per year.

Don't sweat the root stuff - it's not for everyone and don't let anyone tell you any differently.

If you want to learn about it, check out the root forum above this one, and follow the first rule of rooting - read, read, read some more, ask questions before proceeding and not before reading. All of us that have been successful rooting started out that way - me too.

Only go the route that's comfortable for you. Root isn't required and it's really a good phone as is.
