Jellybean update

I look at it from another way: I don't expect Jellybean, so I can't be disappointed! :D

I have not heard of any update date....

I agree... at least I don't anticipate anything anytime soon. When I first got my Infuse 4G, there were numerous rumors that an update would be coming anytime soon. There eventually was an update, but not until several months later.

Pantech just announced on their facebook page that Jellybean is available via over the air. I'm downloading it right now. Not sure what version it is yet.

What a slow download! Anyway, under "About phone", it now says Android version 4.1.2

Download was slow mainly due to the servers being hammered by all the people looking for there updates. Also does anyone know if being rooted will impead our ability to update, my update failed and I can't try again until tommorow, I unrooted my phone but the bootloader is still detecting root. Also to the person who now has jelly bean, is it any smoother? any new features (besides the one we know come with jelly bean)

My update failed also, my phone is rooted. I unrooted and I'm gonna try again when the 24hrs is up. If it fails this time, I'm gonna have to reset the phone to factory settings and try that way.

It failed the second time. Just reset the phone to factory settings and gonna try again. Hopefully it'll work this time. So if your phone is rooted, you might have to do this too.

My update failed as well. After 2 hours it was at 65% but 20 minutes later it said it failed.

Burt, what advantages are there to rooting the Discover?

You can unistall all the preloaded apps you don't use and free up space. You can also install a ad blocker to get rid of the adds on the apps that use them. If you know what you're doing, you can do a lot to a rooted phone. Just tried the installation for a 4th time and it stops at 25% and says it failed. Starting to get on my nerves.

I haven't downloaded the update yet, but according to Pantech's website, it is Jellybean 4.3 (the most current version).

I finally got one of my Discovers to take the upgrade and it is 4.1.2. Must be a typo on the Pantech website where it says 4.3.

The upgrade took more than 7 hours. I almost gave up.

Yes I've rooted and installed custom ROM's but didn't see where there was any available for the Discover. My 4 yr old HTC Inspire is running 4.2 right now and works better than ever.

I got it downloaded again, but I postponed it until I hear back from Pantech. Hopefully they have a solution to why it fails to install. Glad you got it to finally install Toby.

I'm not rooted, and I'm not a super-user. I'm OK if I can make some phone calls and use some apps, perhaps even simultaneously. Having said that.... I have been having some issues since the Jellybean "upgrade". Two variants:
a) while on my home-page, tap on an app. The app tries to open, but goes back to the home page. Then try to power down via the Power key -- Power Off or Restart options -- the item is highlighted, but nothing else happens. Further keypresses or taps do nothing.
b) phone reboots on its own: Screen goes dark, Pantech logo comes up. No sound. It gets to home page, but then a) occurs.

Both require a "remove the battery" reboot to clear.

Annoying, but not life-threatening....

My phone does the same stupid sudden-freeze-and-reset thing, but it's more than just annoying - it's rendered one of the few games I play outright unplayable (crashes the phone within a minute every single time) and another one damn near unplayable (crashes it every few minutes).

On top of that, the entire phone seems to be lagging very slightly since I installed the update. I have no interest in any of the new features, and this is what I get in return. Thanks, Pantech. Thanks a lot for releasing a buggy update that screws up your otherwise nice phone model. Idiots.

Hi guys. I just got a Discover. I haven;t yet put Jelly Bean on it, but I need it (for a variety of reasons).

Are you guys still having problems with JB and the discover? If so, I may have to sell this phone and get something else, as JB is imperative.

Thanks in advance.

I wrote message #15 above. The only time I get a reboot is when I try to connect to the employee Wi-Fi network at work; connecting to the guest Wi-Fi network works, so I just connect to the guest SSID, rather than trying to figure out what is wrong with either Pantech, Google, and/or my IT department.

Infrequently, I have an app that closes, and I go back to the home-page. But I would guess these are app issues, and not necessarily JB issues.

Is there anyway to update the Discover other than OTA? Currently live out of the US and everytime I try updating I get "server unavailable. Phone will check again in 24 hours." I like this phone, and would love Jellybean to enjoy Google Now and other goodies like daydream mode and more
