Is it doing it all the time? It would also be helpful to know what model of phone you have?
If you go Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> All -> Messaging -> Clear Data & Clear Cache. Does that resolve? Before you do that, it's worth noting you may lose all your SMS though.
