Juice fast/cleanse...HELP!!!!!

danaj

Android Enthusiast
So I decided to undertake a juice fast/ cleanse. I am making juices with kale, ginger, apple, celery, cucumbers all mixed together. I am also making other juices. So today I have had 4 huge glasses of juice. Some of them tasted good, and others not so much. I want to do this for 7-10 days, but I am starving, and I am only on day one. I need your support! Please give me encouragement. All I can think about is cheeseburgers and peanut butter toast. Has anyone else done something like this? Does anyone have any tips? Will it get easier tomorrow?

Hum don't do it?

Do you know anything at all about nutrition? Or "dieting"? That sure seems like one of those "fads" that do more harm than good.

The whole "cleansing" thing is bull, by the way. And, since it's "temporary", it won't do any good to your weight, if that was your objective. You are lacking fats and proteins (by the way, fat can be good!)

Seems like a totally useless torture to me. :p

Taper into it. Phase I should be a low-tox kind of diet with raw foods and a good detox soup. You need to shrink your tummy a bit before you go to "nuthin' but juice."

Are you working with a nutritionist, or making it up as you go?

My first question is this: Why are you doing this? Are you trying to cleanse your body or lose weight?

Throw some cheeseburgers and peanut butter toast into the juicer?!?!?! :p

Protein powders do a good job of curbing one's appetite. I recommend Myofusion. They have flavors ranging from Banana, Cherry, Vanilla, Chocolate, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Chocolate Mint, Milk Chocolate. All flavors are great. Bodybuilding.com is a good place to shop as well. I say use some of the powders in conjunction with your juicing. Let us know how it works out for you, oh and the protein I listed above also helps with a sweet tooth. I freeze the vanilla flavor and it tastes like ice cream.

Well I would instead just recommend that you start eating healthier and healthier. It takes time to get in a natural rhythm. A mistake that SO many people make is to suddenly make a drastic change. Your body is going to naturally be against it because it's so used to being a certain way, like consuming a certain amount of fat and sugar. Of course, it'll be easier as you go along. Day 1 is always the hardest day but it WILL get easier with each day afterwards.

I personally would not do a cleanse like that. Just have a healthy diet where you consume healthy fats, dietary fiber, lean protein, vegetables, fruits (nature's sugar), and so forth. Start off slowly though like eating like you regularly do but perhaps start off each day with a healthy breakfast. Eventually, start changing things in your other meals so that it's healthier.

Peanut butter and jelly sandwich is not a bad thing. Something that you could do to easily make that healthier is to have peanut butter, reduced sugar organic jam (Trader Joe's), and whole grain toast. You can perhaps trade jam for sliced bananas!

Now that's a good plan!

Oh, and here's something that might be worth reading:

Body cleansing is not supported by science, with no medical benefits demonstrated, and is based on questionable or disproved scientific claims.

;)

If you want to feel good about yourself by taking action, you really should follow Vihzel's advice.

as someone who's done a 14 day fast I will say now STAY STRONG. I actually did one on just water, but it gets much much easier past the first two days. Any questions from an experienced faster feel free to PM me.

I agree completely. The cleanse stuff is complete and total crap. There's nothing at all to back it up. If you want to start a healthier lifestyle that's great. Just go ahead and do it and skip the BS "cleansing."

My 2nd account is EarlyMon

lol!

and as for the 14 day fast mentioned above... WOW. I would die hahaha my metabolism is way too fast. I get hungry like 4 hours after I eat something, it sucks! Being thin is nice, but I hate having to eat so often

I tried this, I've seen friends live only on water, and my conclusion is, just eat healthy instead of fasting.

I do understand that it feels empowering to not eat, but I dont think your body will appreciate it.

i have accidentally gone on a fast before ( too much alcohol, throwing up too much and too hung over to eat for over 24 hours) and it does help me cleanse out toxins etc, but you just end up eating more because you are so famished. Your body will try to stock up the nutrients, and it is like your gateway to yo yo dieting.
That can be a real problem cuz it leads to fatty liver even if youre really slim etc.

If you had eaten during that same period you still would've "cleansed toxins". Not eating doesn't affect your liver function.

Thanks for all the info guys. I didn't even make it that first day, but I do want to try again. I do know a bit about nutrition, and I do believe that if fasting is done right, it can be a part of a healthy lifestyle. I believe that a lot of modern foods are "addicting" so a fast would serve the same purpose as a detox from drugs. I know some of you think that is crazy, but as someone who has struggled with addiction I can very well see the signs of addiction with these high fat, salt, and sugar foods. I am just hoping to reset my cravings. I already have made great improvements in my eating habits over the years...but now I want to eliminate all processed foods from my diet.

Yeah, I just read my own post and it didn't make sense.
I wanted to say that losing weight and rebounding back several times opver can cause fatty liver.

My dad had this problem and although he doesn't drink, smoke and has a slim figure, his liver count was not so good.

Fasting is fine, and dieting is fine too, but just dont yoyo.

I disagree i have done the master cleanse twice (after failing the full 10 days twice) You can literally see the results but i will not go into that more......the body does not need solid foods to thrive and be healthy.....with proper selection you can supplement a very healthy lifestyle with juices and different fruits and veggie in liquid form...i know you said you didnt make it but just so you know day 1 tends to be an easier day its the middle of day 2 that is the hump....after that it can be cake...the key is not to surround with temptation and boredom leads to cheating...also the ease in periods are very key like stated above it takes tremendous will power to aske the body to change what it has been doing for years

I did the 30 hours famine to raise money when I was in high school and I can say I felt quite weak just fasting on water by the end of the 30 hours. I did NOT feel that my body was cleansing at all. More like dying and bloated from the water consumption. Since I could ONLY drink water, I drank about 20+ L of water to keep me full.

That was what I ate when I was in University. Peanut + banana + almond slices toasted in the oven is delicious to a fault. Another great quick recipe is Peanut+ apple slices + cinnamon toasted in the oven :) Also another yummy/healthy recipe I love making is a fruit yoghurt breakfast (mix fruits (apple, banana, berries), nuts and plain/corn/flaky unsweetened cereals and top it off with low fat yoghurt in a bowl.

If you're craving a popsicle, a good cheeky alternative is a frozen banana stick (peel a banana, stick a stick in it, wrap it with aluminium foil and throw it in the freezer). I would recommend that you eat this when you're alone as it looks kind of naughty.
